right hander Nathan Eovaldi makes his debut for the Dodgers tonight

as we begin game two all the talk around the Dodgers today is right hander 21 year old rookie Nathan Eovaldi. he will be making his major league debut on the mound tonight for the Dodgers in game two of the three game series in Arizona, with the Dodgers taking game 1 last night 7-4.

what do we know about Eovaldi? not much really. the 21 year old is 6'3 195 pounds out of Alvin texas. he had tommy jogn surgery on his arm right after highschool, but had recovered quickly, being eager to prove to scouts that he was able to still pitch effectivly. the Dodgers drafted him in the 11th round of the 2008 draft. Eovaldi was having a breakout year in Chatanooga double AA ball. he was 6-5 with a 2.62 ERA in 19 starts. he had 99 strikeouts in just over 103 innings, and a nice strikeout per nine of 8.7.
the scouting report tells us that he throws a very hard fastball clocked at 95-97. another young fireballer. he also has a pretty good curveball, but can be inconsistent with locating it. but that is typical with young pitchers. he also mixes in a decent high slider.

Arizona will counter with lefty Joe Saunders. the Dodgers have seen Saunders many times. last time Saunders pitched well only allowing two runs against the Dodgers, and beating them at Dodger stadium. Saunders has pitched very well latly, posting an ERA of 2.30 in his last 9 starts, and has won five of his last six starts.

the giants are currently losing again to the Phillies 2-0 in the 7th inning. well keep you posted on what happens in that game during the postgame recap. remember the Dbacks are just a half game behind the giants for first place in the NL west.

Dodger rookies have made quite an impact on the Dodgers throughout the season. watch as another one begins his big league journey tonight. game time is at 510PM on PT. its the Baseball circle of life folks, Hakuna Matata Dodger fans! GO BLUE!
