Finally Hiroki Kuroda picks up a win. he desrved it tonight, for his dominating performence. Kuroda plowed through a pathetically depleted San Diego lineup pitching 7 shutout innings, as the Dodgers won 1-0.

Kuroda will be a Dodger forever

Kemp went 2 for 4 with his 6th straight two hit game, and drove in the only run with a RBI single, and there were several great defensive plays throughout the game by the Dodgers. two great plays by Loney in the first inning, a great diving catch by kemp in the 9th, and a sliding catch by Rivera with runners on base to help preserve Kuroda's shutout.

in the top of the first, Gordon beats out an infield single, and steals second, but he is thrown out straying too far off the bag during Blake's grounder to short. Miles immediatly grounds into a double play to halt any chances of scoring.

the pitching matchup between Kuroda and Matt Latos tonight was a good one. in the first inning, Loney makes two great defensive plays to help Kuroda.
Maybin hits a sharp grounder down the first base line, Loney makes a lunging stab as hes running into foul territory, he overhands to Kuroda covering the bag for the out. Great play!
the very next batter, Bartlett, hits a screaming liner that Loney jumps for and snares. Loney is all glove and no bat. Headly grounds out, ending the frame.

the Dodgers go down 123 in the second off of Latos, with two outs in the bottom of the second, rookie Tekotte singles, and steals second, Navarro's throw is no where near the vicinity of second base, and goes into center field, tekotte takes third on the throwing error.
but Kuroda gets Blanks to strike out.

the Dodgers go down 123 in the third, and so do the Padres, as Kuroda strikes out Johnson, and Latos.

the Dodgers score the only run of the game in the top of the fourth. Gordon bunts for a hit, and advances to third, on consecutive ground outs by Blake and miles. with first base open, you would expect the Padres to walk Kemp. but they dont. hey whatever, its your funeral San Diego. Bison gets a RBI base knock, into left field, scoring Gordon. 1-0 Dodgers. theres an errant pickoff throw that sends Kemp to second, but with Rivera at bat, Kemp is thrown out attempting to steal. Kemp had a consecutive stolen base streak snapped. thats his first caught stealing since april 20.

Kemp drives in a run in the fourth with a run scoring single.

Kuroda pitches a scoreless 4th inning, pitching around a Guzman single.
the Dodgers had a great chance to extend their lead in the top of the fifth, but couldnt get the big hit with runners in scoring position. Rivera singles, Loney strikes out, but Navarro singles Rivera to third, on a hit and run play. but Gwynn pops out, and Kuroda grounds out. and San Diego gets out of it.

San Diego had their only real chance to score, in the bottom of the 5th inning, but Juan Rivera had other ideas.  tekotte singles, and Blanks walks, putting runners at first and second. Kuroda only walked two all day although one was intentional. Johnson the catcher, strikes out, Latos the pitcher trying to bunt fails, and strikes out. with two outs, Maybin hits a sinking liner to shallow Right, Rivera playing on Etheir's day off, was playing deep, but races in and makes a sliding glove stretched catch by the skin of his teeth. Bud Black argues with the Umps, but looking at the replay, the umps made the correct call, Rivera caught the ball on his shoestrings. still 1-0 Dodgers.

the Dodgers go down 123 in the top of the 6th, and San Diego, goes down 123 in their half as well, with Kuroda picking up another strike out on Bartlett.

in the 7th inning, kemp singles, advances to second on Rivera's grounder, but is doubled up on Loney's line drive out.

move to the bottom of the 7th, Kuroda still pitching gets Hudson to fly out, but Tekotte singles. thats his third hit of the game. Blanks strikes out swinging while tekotte steals second. Black has Will Venable hit for Johnson, but the Dodgers intentionally walk him after notcing he is hitting .348 against Kuroda. Forsythe bast for Latos, and strikes out for the third out. Kuroda would come out after this inning, pitching 7 shut out innings, allowing no runs scattering 4 hits, walking two and striking out 8.

with Kuroda finally in line for a win, the Dodgers tried to add to their lead in the top of the 8th, but go down 123 off of Josh Spence.

in the bottom of the 8th, Dougie is brought in and nearly blows the game for Kuroda, but gets out of it.
Maybin grounds out, but conescutive singles to Bartlett and Headly put runners at first and second with 1 out. but Guzman flies out to Ethier, who was double switched into the game, and Hudson grounds out, ending the frame. good job Dougie!

Josh Specne gets Gordon to pop out to open the 9th, then is removed, and Chad qualls comes in. after Blake grounds out, Miles triples into the gap, but Kemp strikes out, to end the 9th.

move to the bottom of the 9th, with the Dodgers nursing a 1-0 lead, Javy (ice man) Guerra comes in to close the door. Tekotte strikes out, Cunningham hits a flare into center, that looks like it might fall in for a hit, but Bison charges in like a Bison stampede, and makes a great diving catch. nice play Bison!

Venable grounds out to end the game. Kuroda picks up the win, and Guerra his 9th save. he is now a perfect 9 for 9 in saves.

Guerra picks up his 9th save

the Dodgers still havent decided who will start in De La Rosa's spot for next week. their is rumors, that they might give double A ball pitcher Nathan Eovaldi a look. well keep you posted on this story.

Dodgers win!!!

this is good that the Dodgers get as many wins as they can, as they face the red hot Dbacks this weekend, and theyll have to go back into the desert. speaking of the Dbacks, they beat the Giants again today, winning their fourth straight. the giants have lost five in a row, and both teams are now tied for first place in the NL west. the Dodgers are still in fourth place, now 10.5 games back.

the Dodgers will go for a sweep tomorrow as Ted Lilly will take the mound in a 710PM game on KCAL. please join us tomorrow for our daily game recap. good game tonight! GO BLUE!
