Kershaw blanks Milwaukee for 15th win

Dodgers 5 10 0
Brewers  1 7 2
WP-Kershaw-15-5
LP-Estrada-3-8
HR-Big Rod-11

hard to believe but the Brewers are one of the best teams in the league, they have a huge lead in their division, and the best home record in MLB. the Brewers were the expansion seattle pilots, who moved to Milwaukee in 1970 after only one season. the only other time the Brewers have finished first place since 1970 was their lone world series year in 1982. there merrily on their way to the postseason, and they've beaten the dodgers in the first three games by scores of 3-0 2-1 and 3-1. but there was a huge pink elephant in the room blocking their happy wonderful four game sweep. a left handed pink elephant.

that elephant would be Clayton Kershaw, who won his 15th game today, as the Dodgers beat the Brewers 5-0

Kershaw wins his 15th
in the top of the first,  Gwynn whiffs, Sellers fouls out, Ethier draws a walk, but Kemp whiffs.

Kershaw begins the game by whiffing Hart. Hairston doubles down the left field line, the ball takes a weird hop on Gwynn. Braun flys out, while Fielder strikes out ending things in the first.

the Dodgers get on the board in the second inning, Big Rod hits his bi-weekly homer, a solo shot just over the left field wall. 1-0 Dodgers.

Big Rod hits his 11th home run
kershaw retires the side in order in the bottom of the second.

then the game turns into the other night, a double play fest......
with 1 out, Gwynn hits a dribbler o third, Mcgehee's throw pulls Fielder off the bag, and Gwynn is dafe at first. Sellers a base hit into left field sends Gwynn to third. but.....uh-oh not again.....

"JUST THE TWO OOF US, WE CAN MAKE IT IF WE TRY......JUST THE TWO OF US....YOU AN I......OH JUST THE TWO OF US.........

Ethier's grounder to first is snared by Fielder, he steps on first, then throws home to gun down Toyn Gywnn at the plate, who was trying a reckless attempt to score from second, he's out, and so is Milwaukee from the threat of scorage.

Tony Gwynn is tagged out at home by Lucroy
in the bottom of the third, Josh Wilson hits a piddly ground ball single to left, the pitcher Estrada sacrifices wilson to second. Hart singles, but Tony Gwynn's strong throw to home keeps wilson at third. this would prove important for the Dodgers. if he scored there we'd be screwed. Wilson starts running down third base as Hairston hits a grounder to Miles who turns a nice around the horn double play. and the Dodgers get out of it! maybe there was a missed sign again? perhaps a chink in the armor?

in the fourth, the Dodgers fall victim to the deuce again. with 1 out, Rivera doubles, Miles walks. but Big rod hits a broken bat double play to end the inning. its the third inning in a row to end with a double play.

Kershaw pitches a scoreless bottom of the 4th, pitching around a Mcgehee single.

the Dodgers go down pathetically in the top of the 5th, Kershaw strikes out two more in the bottom half of the 5th, getting Wilson and Estrada to whiff.

Kameron Loe relieves Estrada in the 6th, and has a 123 striking out Dre and Kemp.

Bottom of the 6th, with 1 out, Hairston doubles over Kemp's head. Braun's fly ball to Ethier, sends Hairston to third, but Fielders fly ball to gwynn ends the inning.

with two outs in the 7th, Big Rod doubles to left, Carroll singles up the middle scoring Big Rod, and the throw home is wide, and Carroll takes second. Kersh trys a sneak bunt, and the pitcher Lowe fields it and throws it away, Carroll scores on the fielding error, and its 3-0 Dodgers! Gwynn's grounder ends the inning.

Kershaw sets the brewers down in order in the bottom of the 7th.

tim dillard comes in to pitch the 8th for Milwaukee. he strikes out Carroll, but Ethier gets on with an infield single, and Bison singles him to third. Bison then proceeds to steal second for his 33rd steal.
Rivera's sac fly scores Ethier, giving the Dodgers a 4-0 lead. Miles single into right field easily scores Kemp for a 5-0 lead now. this is a flurry of runs for the Dodgers. Big rod whiffs ending the frame.

Kershaw pitches another 123 inning, as he breezes through the 8th.

Frankie De La Cruz comes in to pitch the top of the 9th for the Brewers.  with 1 out, Loney hits for Kershaw and strikes out. no need to send kersh out for the 9th when we have a 5 run lead. Kershaw pitches 8 shutout innings allowing only 5 hits, no walks, and 6 strikeouts. he made 104 pitches.

move to to the bottom of the 9th. Guerra in to close it, Guerra strikes out, Hairston on a check swing. that bastard Braun triples into the gap. And fielder's sac fly to Kemp scores Braun, and ruins Kershaw's beautiful shutout. oh well. Mcgehee annoyingly singles, but Kotsay fouls out to Sellers to end the game.

Ha! lick our balls Milwaukee! sorry no sweep for you! good luck in the playoffs!
Kershaw improves to 15-5, lowering his ERA to 2.60 with a league leading 199 strikeouts.

the Dodgers will now fly back to the rarified air of Coors field to take on the Rockies. yep thats right Dodger fans that means well have to deal with Cargo, Mullet, and Helton once again. join us tomorrow as Hiroki Kuroda will battle Jason Hammel at 540PM. have a great day everyone! GO BLUE!
