Dre Going for 30 Straight in the Big Apple

Dodgers @ Mets
4:10 pm
Game 1

After a much needed day off, the hobbling Dodgers open a 7 game East Coast road trip with three games at Citi Field in New York and then 4 games in Pittsburgh. After dropping the series to the Cubs, the Dodgers are now two games below .500. The New York Mets are 5 games under .500, so this hopefully will be a chance for the Dodgers to pick up some wins.

Hiroki Kuroda (3-2, 3.10) will take the mound for the Dodgers. Kuroda as had trouble against the Metropolitans in the past. In 5 starts he has a 5.18 ERA against them and a 1-3 record. Jon Niese (1-4, 4.71) will pitch for the Mets. A lefty, he will challenge Andre Ethier in his quest to reach the 30 game mark in his streak.

What's better than NY cheesecake? Nothing much, but maybe a 29 game Dodgers hit streak! Andre Ethier sat out Wednesday's day game due to some elbow stiffness, but he should be back in the lineup this afternoon. Mattingly wanted to be careful with his treasured right fielder, and so sitting him out a day gave Andre a much needed couple of days rest.

Injury updates:

Juan Uribe is back in the lineup after bastard Zambrano hit him in the left hand, bruising it. This is the third time Uribe has been hurt recently. Of course this happens right when Uribe is getting hot with the bat and has been equally impressive with the glove at third base. Hopefully he will not be placed on the DL, since we are already short infielders with Furcal and Blaker on the DL. It looks almost certain Aaron Miles will be starting once again. Sigh.

Jonathan Broxton had his elbow looked at, and there was no structural damage found. A bruise (awww a little boo-boo, Brox?) and a small bone spur were found. He will be placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to 5/4, and Kenley Jansen has been called up from AA. Brox complained of stiffness in his elbow after pitching. How long has this been bothering him? Who knows. We do know that in 12.2 innings pitched this season, he has allowed 15 hits, 10 runs, 2 homeruns, 9 walks, 10 strikeouts and has a 5.68 ERA.

Lineup:

Carroll 6
Sands 7
Ethier 9
Kemp 8
Uribe 5
Loney 3
Barajas 2
Miles 4
Kuroda 1

Of course we see Miles in the lineup, but thankfully he's batting 8th while Sands is batting second. Uribe & Ethier are back in, so we may actually see some honest to goodness runs today if we're lucky.

Go Dre!!
