early bird special-Dodgers/cubs rubber game

Dodgers lineup-*UPDATED*

Ethier is a late scratch from the game because of a sore left elbow. he is ok, and should be back in the lineup for friday. this does not affect his hit streak, unless he comes into the game later, or pinch hits. this raises an interesting question, will Donnie risk jeapordizing his streak to try and win the game, if there is a spot he might need him to pinch hit for late in the game? well have to see, otherwise dont expect a win with this ugly lineup, gwynn leads off playing left, and Gibbons moves to right field, batting third.

Gwynn7
Miles4
Gibbons9
Kemp8
Uribe6
Loney3
Navarro2
Mitchell5
Lilly1

Carlos Zambrano 3-1 vs. Ted Lilly 2-2

this looks like another one of Donnie's throwaway lineups. Gibbons batts second? wtf? Carroll gets the day off, so Uribe slides over to shortstop, and Russ Mitchell gets the start at third base. Navarro cathing batting 7th. come on Donnie can we please stop batting Aaron Miles leadoff?

so last night it was another predictably horrible outing for Jonathon Failston. and a typical bullpen meltdown again. the Dodgers now have the worst bullpen ERA in the majors now (5.53) in case your wondering the padres have the best at (2.37). yes its this bad people. its not just Broxton, its the whole bullpen, between injuries and just plain sucking, dodger relief pitchers are really killing the team.  Padilla might be our last best option to close, not sure what the Dodgers will do in general. something has to be done, this is just not acceptable.

Carlos Zambrano takes the hill for Chicago, against former teammate Ted Lilly.

Zambrano has never pitched well against the dodgers (1-2 5.23) but has pitched very well at Dodger stadium in the past (2-1 2.37 in 7 career games)

Lilly is coming off of a good start against the Padres. hopefully he will continue his good trend today.

the Dodgers and cubs will wear their throwback uniforms today. both teams will wear the authentic 1940s jerseys as the game starts at 1210PM. maybe this is a good sing, since the Dodgers are 1-0 in throwback games.
also watch Andre Ethier look to extend his record hit streak to 30 games today. hes hit Zambrano very well in the past. he needs just two more to tie willie davis for the all time Dodger hit streak. lets hope he can carry it onto the road. once he breaks Davis' streak, then we start to get into uncharted territory, well talk about that later. in the meantime.....GO DRE!!!

the game is on PT today. GO BLUE!!!
