Dodgers Looking for More Pirate Booty

Game 3

The Dodgers are three games below .500, but as of right now only 3.5 games back of the Rockies and .5 game back of the Giants in a weak NL West Division. The Dodgers have been plagued with injury, and we can add another one to the growing list of DL inductees with Blake Hawksworth who suffered a groin strain in yesterday's game. Scott Elbert, a much-needed lefty, will be called up to take his place. So far in AAA Elbert has made 13 appearances, and is 2-0 with a 5.02 ERA. He has allowed 9 walks and struck out 16. Let's hope his walkapalooza™ days are behind him. I would hope he would show that he has a place in our bullpen, and he could perhaps take Cormier's spot once Hawk is back from the DL. This would be the 12th DL stint by a Dodger so far this season.

Casey Blake will resume baseball activities after suffering a staph infection on his elbow. He has removed his arm brace, but still has stitches that he must be careful with.

Hiroki Kuroda (3-3, 3.69) will go to the mound for the Dodgers. In his last outing in New York he allowed two homeruns. He's already given up 7 this season. The Pirates will start their lefty Paul Maholm (1-4, 3.68).

Lineup:

Carroll 6
De Jesus 4
Ethier 9
Kemp 8
Uribe 5
Barajas 2
Sands 7
Mitchell 3
Kuroda 1

With a lefty on the mound, we get a refreshing lineup which doesn't include both Loney or Miles! Ivan De Jesus gets a rare start at second base and hits second. Russ Mitchell will start at first base. I'm all for this lineup, it can't possibly be worse than one with Loney in it.

With two subpar teams battling it out, there's bound to be at least one meltdown. In game one it was the Dodgers who blew it, but yesterday the Pirates showed us that we are not alone. Let's hope today we are on the other side of the meltdown again. Go Blue:)
