Road Trip Finally Ends, Lilly Gets Another Loss

Dodgers 3 9 0
Giants    4 9 0
Sanchez-WP (1-1)
Lilly-LP (0-2)
Wilson-S (2)
HR-Barajas (3), Sandoval (2), (Fontenot (1)

The Dodgers fall back to .500 after losing the series in San Francisco and finally ending this long, cold road trip. Lilly was giving up hits right away when Rowand lead off the game with a double. He then scores on Huff's fly ball giving the Giants the early 1-0 lead. Lilly also hits Buster Posey in retaliation of Lincecum's treatment of Uribe this season.

The Giants pounced on Lilly again in the second inning when Belt singles, and the fill-in Fontenot doubles him home making it 2-0 Giants.

In the third inning the Dodgers had an opportunity to get on the board. Miles singles, but Lilly can't manage to lay down the bunt and strikes out pathetically. Carroll singles right afterwards of course. Blake and Ethier both whiff to end the inning. In the bottom of the third, Buster Posey is hit by Lilly for the second time. Now we're even for Uribe! The umpires give warnings to both teams. Funny how Lincecum, who throws a lot harder by the way and really nailed Uribe, didn't receive a warning.

In the fourth inning Thames singles and then Big Rod slams his 3rd homerun of the year tieing the game at 2. Miles gets another single when Sandoval's throw is too high.

In the 6th inning Miles once again continues his miracle of a game. Thames walks, and then Miles triples, yes triples, Thames home from first as the ball rolls all the way to the wall. Did you ever think you would see these two guys in a play like that? In the bottom of the inning the fat panda homers off Lilly, and since that wasn't enough, Lilly then serves up a second homerun to Fontenot making it 4-3 Giants. To put this in perspective, this was only Fontenot's second homerun EVER off of a lefty. Yup, our lefty. Sigh.

Both pitchers are out of the game by the 7th. Lilly goes 6 inning, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Sanchez goes 6, allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts.

The Giants use three pitchers in the 7th. Ramon Martinez handles two batters, then Bochy brings in Javier Lopez to get Ethier, but Ethier foils his plans and singles off of the lefty. Romo comes in and strikes out Kemp who had a bad game going 0 for 4. It was opposites day as Kemp went 0-4 yet Aaron Miles goes 3 for 4 with two singles and a RBI triple. McDougal comes in to pitch the bottom of the 7th, and luckily Big Rod throws out Rowand after McDougal allowed him a single.

*TOOTBLAN Alert* In the 8th Gwynn doubles, but after Affeldt is brought in Gwynn is caught in between second and third and picked off. There goes the tieing run. Kuo comes in to pitch the 8th, and strikes out Burrell and Sandoval but then walks Belt and Fontenot. Guerrier is brought in the finish the inning.

The 9th inning is quickly forgettable as blackbeard comes in and closes it down. Now the Dodgers and Giants have identical records (6-6) and are both 3 games out of first behind the red hot Rockies.

Thankfully they will be returning to Dodger Stadium tomorrow as they host the St. Louis Cardinals in their first meeting of the year. Kuroda will be on the mound. Tomorrow's another day Dodger fans!
