Dodgers Win 5 Straight As Kershaw Picks Up 10th Victory

Dodgers           6 8 1
Diamondbacks 4 6 1
WP- Kershaw (10-4)
LP- Saunders (6-8)
S- Guerra (5)
HR- Rivera (7), Kemp (23), Nady (3)

The Dodgers continue their longest winning streak of the season with their 5th straight victory with the the help of homeruns by newbie Juan Rivera and 4 RBIs from Matt Kemp. Kershaw now is leading the majors with 155 strikeouts, and his ERA is at 2.88 since the D-Back's 4 runs were unearned.

The Dodgers start out of the gate slow and go down in order in the first. In the bottom of the inning, Bloomquist singles and steals second. He reaches third base on a Johnson fly ball, but he is cut down at the plate by Bison's arm on a fly ball by Upton!

July 15, 2011 - Willie Bloomquist of the Arizona Diamondbacks is tagged out to end the first inning by Dioner Navarro of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
You Can't Score on Bison!

In the second, the newest Dodger Juan Rivera hits his first pitch as a Dodger over the fence for a line drive homerun! Welcome to the team Juan! 1-0 Dodgers:) Kersh sends the rattlesnakes down in order in the bottom of the inning.

Both pitchers have 1-2-3 innings in the 3rd.

In the 4th, Rivera singles, Loney walks, and Navarro singles in Rivera, 2-0 Dodgers. In the bottom half of the inning Kersh only allows a single to Bloomquist, but he is picked off from first.

The Dodgers go down 1-2-3 in the 5th. Kersh only allows a 2-out single to Roberts in the bottom of the inning.

The Dodgers score again in the 6th when Dre reaches safely on a Nady error, and then Bison crushes a 2-run homerun making it 4-0 Dodgers. That is Kemp's 23rd homerun of the season.

Saunders goes 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts on 84 pitches.

Heilman comes into relieve Saunders in the 7th and allows a single to Kershaw. Uribe gets a broken bat infield single, and Dre walks to load the bases for Bison. Bison singles in Kershaw and Uribe for his 3rd & 4th RBI of the game, 6-0. Kershaw begins to tire in the bottom of the 7th, but Donnie pushes his luck. Young reaches on a rare Uribe error (only his 3rd of the year) and then reaches second on a balk. Kersh strikes out Drew, but then walks Roberts. At this point Kersh has made around 100 pitches, and he is noticeably tiring especially seeing he just balked and walked a runner. Yet Donnie seems to think he can get out of it and he leaves him in. Montero singles in Young, 6-1. Nady then hits a 3-run homerun making it a 2-run game, 6-4. Kersh strikes out Burroughs to end the inning.

Kershaw goes 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, 8 strikeouts on 111 pitches.

Ace By No Other Name
Owings comes in to pitch the 8th for AZ and only allows a walk to Loney. In the bottom of the 8th, Dougie comes in and only allows a walk to Johnson and strikes out Young.

Castillo pitches the 9th and sends the Dodgers down in order. Kuo comes into the game for a save opportunity, and gets 2 outs but walks Roberts. Donnie brings in Guerra and he promptly allows a single to Nady and Roberts is at 3rd. Luckily Guerra strikes out Allen to end the threat and pick up the save.

I didn't agree with Donnie taking out Kuo when he only had 1 out to go in the 9th, but at least we got the win. I just feel that doesn't show he has full confidence in Kuo at this point, and Kuo needs to feel confident. I think he probably had the situation under control, but tis ok we won!

Tomorrow Kuroda goes to the mound at 5:10pm for game 2 as the Dodgers attempt to make it 6 in a row.

Go Blue:)
