this is the second straight meltdown  game for the Dodgers, during their first game of their final home stand of the year. we saw a flashback to a lot of the earlier games in the season. Lilly had pitched 5 no hit innings, which was amazing enough, and Bison's 33rd blast put the Dodgers up early 1-0. but were flashing back to April and May here so its the same story, Lilly implodes in the 6th, is left in too long, Guerrier blows tie, Elbert in next, allows more runs, Dougie, no offense, blah blah blah, Dodgers lose again. ugghhh Im tired.

Lilly begins the game with a nice quiet 123 inning. he whiffs Bloomquist, retires Newly acquired Aaron Hill on a fly ball, and Upton grounds out to Gordon.

Bottom first. after Gordon and Loney make out. Bison hits one out over the right field wall for a home run. number 33 for bison and RBI #108. 1-0 Dodgers. Bloomquist tries to Backhand Rivera's ground ball from his knees and it bounces off his give for an error. Miles whiffs ending the first.

Bison blasts his 33rd homer of the year.

Another nice easy inning for Lilly despite a walk to Young. Roberts whiffs to leave Young stranded at first.  Lilly had a really nice uncle charlie working tonight. still 1-0 Dodgers.

Parra walks leading off the third. Saunders sacrifices him to second. Bloomquist flies out to Kemp. Parra tricks the Dodgers into thinking he's not going to tag up, but he does. Kemp's throw is just off, and so is Mile's tag. with a runner at third, Hill whiffs, and Lilly gets out of it.

Lilly works another quick inning in the top of the 4th, despite hitting Montero with a pitch in the hand. still 1-0 Dodgers.

After the Dodgers go down in order in the bottom of the 4th. Lilly whiffs Young, Roberts single to left, is the Dbacks first hit of the game off Lilly. Parra grounds into a force out. and Lilly whiffs Saunders.
move to the top of the 6th. our minuscule lead is erased in a flash. Bloomquist gets a little flare blooper that drops untouched into no man's land in right field. Hill doubles Bloomquist to third, but oh wait, Sands bumbles the ball in left field, allowing Bloomquist to score. 1-1 tie score. Upton is intentionally walked. Montero fouls out to Big Rod. Hill steals third off Lilly. Mattingly finally brings a hook for Lilly. he actually pitched very well, carrying a no-hitter into the 5th, but we knew he couldn't keep that up I mean its Ted Lilly, but a very solid outing for the lefty. 101 pitches 5.1 innings and 5 whiffs. Mattingly waited too long to hook him. Guerrier enters and immediately blows the tie. allowing a single to Goldschmidt scoring Hill. 2-1 Arizona.
Roberts sigles in Upton. its 3-1. Mattingly hooks Guerrier to a chorus of boos.  Enter Scott Elbert. he allows a single to Parra that scores two more runs. 5-1 Arizona. This obviously marks the ends of the game for the Dodgers. Theres a wild pitch that bounces back to the backstop and ricochets back to Big Rod who tosses to Elbert to tag out Roberts at the plate. Saunders then whiffs to end the inning. but when the dust settles the backs score 5 runs.

Kemp singles in the 6th, but thats it. and Lindblom retires the side in order in the 7th.

Bottom of the 7th, with Saunders still in, walks Miles. a wild pitch advances Miles to second. Big Rod's grounder sends him to third. Sands finally uses his bat and singles in Miles. 5-2. Big Rod's high chopper gets Sands to second. Russ Mitchell who is a very versatile player, but doesn't hit much, comes off the bench to bat for Lilly and pops out. but the Dodgers get a run still trail 5-2.

top 8th, with Dougie on the mound. Montero whiffs,  Goldschmidt singles, Young hits a ball that bounces right off the third base bag, Roberts whiffs, Parra's double knocks in two more. 7-2. Burroughs whiffs ending the inning.

Patterson pitches the 8th for Saunders and the dbacks. Gordon fouls out, Loney walks, Gibson brings a hook, and calls in Shaw. he retires Kemp and Rivera to end the inning.

Eovaldi pitches a 123 top of the 9th, and the Dodgers go into the bottom of the 9th trailing 7-2.

Shaw still pitching gets Miles to ground out, Big Rod lines out, two outs. Sands a seen eye single, Carroll singles Sands to third. Castillo hits Tony Gywnn in the but with a pitch. bases loaded. Gibson brings in closer J.J. Putz, and gets Gordon to ground out to end the game.

thats two awful games in a row. I'm not liking this regression to the beginning of the year. can we please nip this in the bud Donnie before it gets any worse? if Ted Lilly hasn't pitched into the 7th inning more than once all year long then maybe you should have someone already warming before his arm melts? and  can we please bring in anyone other than Guerrier to pitch? come on Donnie I want my 9 wins.

well see you tomorrow at 705 for game two. Ian Kennedy going for his 20th win of the season. the Dodgers will counter with Billingsley. man were gonna get our asses kicked aren't we? on that note Im going to bed. GO BLUE
