Nothing but sunshine for Dodgers as Eveland and Offense give Bucs the rainy day blues

Dodgers 6 11 0
Pirates    4 9 1
WP-Eveland-1-0
LP-Lincoln-1-1
SV-Jansen-3
HR-Pressley-2

before the game we learned that former LA Marathon owner Bill Burke has offered McCourt a cash only 21 day offer of 1.2 billion to buy the Dodgers. well keep you posted on this breaking news.

we also learned that Casey Blake will have season ending neck surgery.  with all this going on, the Blazing hot Dodgers led by Kemp, ethier, and a resurgent Loney continue their hail mary charge towards a winning season and maybe more?
fatigue also could have played a part for Pittsburgh today, as they had to stop their current road trip to come home for a single game, then fly to chicago for a series in wrigley.

the Dodgers would need all their runs to survive a late game futile charge from the Pirates. everyone contributed for the Dodgers, Miles knocked in two with a singe, Gordon drove in two with a double, and Kemp, Gordon, Loney, and Ellis each had two hits, as the Dodgers beat the bucs in a rainout makeup game that was put on the schedule back in may.

spot starter College of the Canyons graduate Dana Eveland leads the Dodgers to win

spot starter Dana Eveland who grew up in Palmdale and went to the same Jr. College as I did, was the hero, pitching 8 strong innings, allowing just a single run to score on a double play, walking none and whiffing 3.

The Dodgers get off to a great start, scoring three runs in the first inning before the chairs are warm. Gordon fresh off the DL, begins with a single to left. Gordon decides not to test the arm of Mccutchen and stays at first on Loneys fly ball. Bison singles Gordn to third. Bison steels second base, his 36th steal of the season. the Pirates intentionally walk Ethier to load the bases for Miles. the scrappy infielder's base hit to right scores Gordon and Bison. 2-0 Dodgers! Gwynns fly ball, scores Ethier from third, making it a three run first inning for the Dodgers. they are red hot!

Miles two run single puts the Dodgers ahead early. they would not look back winning 6-4

Eveland has a good start. he starts out by whiffing Tabata. rookie Pressley singles, McCutchen hits into a force out, as Carroll is unable to get the ball out of his glove. Eveland picks off McCutchen at first base for the third out. still 3-0 Dodgers.

The Pirates score a run on two hits and a double play grounder in the bottom of the second.
Eveland had Ryan Doumit, (the pirates decent hitting catcher who's been killing the Dodgers for years) 0-2, but couldn't put him away, Doumit's sharp grounder bounces off Dee's glove and rolls into center field.
Walker singles Doumit to third. Harrison's double play grounder scores Doumit. 3-1 Dodgers. Wood lines out to Bison to end the inning.

The Dodgers go down in order 123 in the top of the third.

Eveland retires the bucs in order in the bottom half.
Lincloln allows a two out bloop single to Ellis, but that's it. still 3-1 Dodgers

eveland makes quick work of the bucs in the bottom of the fourth. and as we move through the top of the 5th, with two outs, Loney bangs one off the scoreboard wall in right, but he's left there as Lincoln whiffs Bison. still 3-1 Dodgers.

Ethier walks to begin the 6th. Miles flies out. Gywnn singles Ethier to third, and the Dodgers are in business. the Dodgers who ran the bases aggressively all day. live by the sword die by the sword right? Gwynn is thrown out trying to steal second. two outs now, Ellis walks, and Carroll is hit in the shoulder with a pitch loading the bases. pitcher Dana Eveland give the ball a ride to deep center, but McCutchen makes the catch at the warning track. darn it. still 3-1 Dodgers.

Eveland's strong effort continued through the bottom of the 6th. D'arnaud (I have no idea how to pronounce his name) gets a piddly infield hit to lead off. jaramillo grounds into a nice 6-4-3 double play, and Eveland gets Tabata to ground out to end the 6th. great job!

the Dodgers score a much needed insurance run in the top of the 7th. Grilli comes in to relieve Lincoln. Gordon grounds out, the Blazing hot Loney singles Kemp's infield single is thrown wide and Loney takes third. theres a passed ball that scores Loney, and sends Kemp all the way to third. it looked like Doumit got crossed up on that pitch. Ethier whiffs and Miles flies out to end the inning.

Eveland cruses through the 7th, pressley grounds out, Mr. WAR, McCutchen flys out. McCutchen isn't good enough to hold Kemp's jock strap. Doumit singles, but walker grounds back to the box. still 4-1 Dodgers through 7.

Resop is on the mound for the top of the 8th, and this is the inning where the Dodgers stick the nail in the Pirates coffin.
Gwynn whiffs, but ellis singles as the ball deflects off of resop's foot, taking a blue bounce into the hole between first and second. the inning would quickly unravel for Pittsburgh.
Carroll singles, eveland is allowed to hit and trys to bunt but ends up walking to load the bases, and then Dee Gordon;s line drive double down the right field line scores two, and the Dodgers go up 6-1.

Eveland stays out for the 8th. I actually liked this move from Mattingly. why take him out when he's pitching so well? plus it gives the bullpen a much needed rest. thats what spot starters are supposed to do right? eat innings.
Eveland makes one mistake in the 8th, a double to d'arnoud, but he whiffs Cedeno to end the 8th.

top of the 9th, and McCutchen is brought in to pitch. (Daniel not Andrew) he retires the Dodgers in order.

Eveland is pulled after making 99 pitches. he goes 8 innings allowing only 1 run off 6 hits, walking none and whiffing 3.
for some reason Mattingly wanted to give Hawksworth some work with the Dodgers up by 5 runs. I was surprisingly ok with this, as long as Hawk doest lay an egg. unfortunately since his hip injury never healed he's been laying plenty of eggs lately. he allows a leadoff seen eye single to Tabata. rookie Pressley takes him deep for a home run to right field. with none out, its 6-3 Dodgers. Mattingly makes the correct move though, he takes out Hawk, and brings in Jansen. good job Donnie.
with jansen in we got a bit of a scare. McCutchen walks, Doumit singles McCutchen to third. Walker's one sac fly scores McCutchen. meh a meaningless run for the bucs. Jansen whiffs Harrison and wood to end the game.

phew, the 9th inning was a bit sketch, but we got through it. the Dodgers have now won 9 of 10, and 10 of 13. tomorrow they will face there biggest test, a three game set in Atlanta.
join us tomorrow as Cha Billingsley will try to continue the Dodgers hot streak. tomorrows game is on at 435PM. stay with us as Kemp, Ethier, and Loney lead the Dodgers back to respectability. pinch me I'm dreamin'! can the Dodgers get back to .500? can they make a run? The Dodgers and their fans must pull together.
each day brings a new hope, together we rise, together we stand. GO BLUE!
