Clayton Kershaw made history tonight at Dodger stadium, by becoming the first Dodger pitcher to win 20 games in a season since Ramon Martinez did it back in 1990.
Kershaw improved his record this year to 5-0 against the Giants, and 4-0 in head to head matchup with Lincecum. in the four Head to Head games with Lincecum, the Dodgers and Kershaw have won three by a score of 2-1 and one by a score of 1-0.

Our Ace wins his 20th. he is the Cy Young
Kershaw outpitched Lincecum for the fourth time. pitching 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run off 6 hits. walking two and whiffing 6. Lincecum in comparison pitched 7 innings allowing two runs walking two, and whiffing 5. Lincecum made 112 pitches, while Kersh made 116.
once again it was a true team effort. Loney drove in an early run with a run scoring single, and Jerry Sands continued his torrid hitting with a mammoth home run off Lincecum that put the Dodgers ahead 2-0.

with Kershaw tiring in the 8th inning, the Dodger Bullpen came to the rescue. Jansen whiffed two batters in the 8th, and Guerra pitched a scoreless 9th picking up his 19th save and preserving Kershaw's 20th victory.
with the win, the Dodgers improve to 77-76. the first time they have been above the .500 mark since april 29th. The loss for the Giants was a big blow to their already dwindling playoff hopes.

In the top of the first, Torres grounds one to Miles, and his throw is low, and Loney is unable to pick it. its an error on Miles. with Keppinger at bat, Torres is thrown out stealing by Big Rod, as Keppinger swings and misses at a high pitch. it might have been a busted hit and run play. Keppinger flies out to Rivera. Beltran's pop fly single, falls into no man's land in between three Dodgers in left field, but with Derosa at bat, Beltran is picked off of first base.

Bottom of the first. after Gordon flies out, and Sellers pops out. three consecutive singles from Kemp, Rivera, and Loney give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead. Loneys hit was a run scoring single, which plated Matt Kemp.

Kemp scores the first run
top of the second. Kershaw pitches a 123 inning, whiffing Pill. bottom of the second. Sands still red hot blasts a Lincecum breaking ball halfway up the left field bleachers. 2-0 Dodgers. Kershaw walks on four pitches. Lincecum looks rattled. but Gordon flies out, Sellers whiffs to end the inning.

Top third, Christian leads off with a double past Miles down the line. Stewart pops out. with Lincecum at bat, Christian steals third. Big Rod can't make a throw because the ball slips out of his hand. Lincecum's little tapper in front of the plate can't score Christian. Kershaw whiffs Torres, and the Dodgers get out of it.

Bottom of the third, with two outs, Loney doubles off the wall in left, but Miles grounds out. still 2-0 Dodgers.

top of the 4th, Keppinger grounds to the box. Miles can't handle Beltran's one hop smash. ugghh poor Miles. Derosa flies out, and Pill flies to Sands, who has to make an over the shoulder catch.

Bottom of the 4th. Sands walks, Big Rod's long fly ball. Kershaw sacrifices Sands to second. Lincecum walks Gordon. Sellers whiffs on a called strike three. Lincecum is out of it.

top of the 5th. Cabrerra grounds out. Christian beats out a grounder to Gordon. but Christian is picked off of First base by Kershaw. Then Stewart singles to left, and Lincecum whiffs to end the top of the 5th.

bottom of the 5th, the Dodgers threaten. Kemp and Rivera lead off with singles. Loney flies out. Miles flies out, and Kemp is thrown out stealing third. tis ok Bison. still 2-0 Dodgers after 5.

Kershaw has a 123 inning in the 6th, whiffing Beltran. Lincecum responds with a 123 6th inning of his own.

Kershaw whiffs Derosa to start the 7th. then whiffs Pill on a really nasty breaking ball. Cabrerra grounds out ending the 7th.

Gordon's bloop single is dropped by Christian in left field, despite a diving effort. Lincecum leaps off the mound to catch Sellers sacrifice bunt attempt. Kemp whiffs, while Gordon steals second. number 22 for Gordon. Rivera grounds out and the Dodgers don't score.

Top of the 8th, kershaw begins to tire out. Christian flies out. Stewart homers just over the left field wall. 2-1 Dodgers. Kersh walks pinch hitter Burrell. theres a wild pitch sending pinch runner Ford to second. Kersh walks Torres. Mattingly immediately brings a hook, and calls in Jansen. Kershaw gets a standing ovation from the crowd as he walks off. Kersh could win it, lose it, or have nothing to do with it. we all hold our collective breaths for kersh. but once again the Dodger bullpen would come to the rescue.

Panda whiffs off of Jansen in the 8th by by Panda

with runners at first and second and 1 out, Jansen ( who is awesome) enters with a strikeout to walk line of 85/24. Bochy plays his trump card. an injured Pablo Sandoval is asked to pinch hit. forced to bat left handed, Jansen whiffs him pathetically. then Jansen whiffs Beltran to end the 8th. Kershaw's lead is preserved, and Jansen hugs Kersh in the dugout. make that 87 whiffs!

Runzler retires the first two hitters in the bottom of the 8th. Romo (blackbeard Jr.) retires Sands to end the frame.

top of the 9th with the Dodgers still leading 2-1. Guerra (Ice Man) enters to close up. Guerra goes to field Derosa's little tapper, and throws wide pulling Loney off the bag. E-1 on Guerra. Pill flies out to Sands. Huff comes off the bench and hits into a game ending 3-6-3 double play! Dodgers win! Kershaw wins his 20th!

Kershaw now leads in all three pitching triple crown categories, wins, tied with Kennedy with 20. ERA with 2.27, and strikeouts with 242.
Kershaw is 5-0 against San Francisco, and 4-0 against Lincecum. he's only allowed 1 earned run to the Giants all year. to give you an idea of how dominating he has been, only one other Dodger pitcher has gone 5-0 against the Giants in  one season. (Vic Lombardi in 46). there should be no argument. Clayton Kershaw is the 2011 NL Cy Young award winner.
oh and the Dodgers are now officially a winning team. the Giants lose a game in the standings, and on the calendar. looks like there will be no postseason for the Giants this year. hey if we can't go, then you can't either San Francisco. tomorrow is my birthday, and I will be off celebrating. Stacie will return to cover my Bday edition of DBF. tomorrows matchup at 705 is COC graduate Dana Eveland vs. Vogelsong.
Another historic chapter has been written in this great rivalry between the Dodgers and the Giants. sorry for the lateness of this guys, but I felt this game deserved a proper recap. revenge is a dish best served cold is it not? GO BLUE
