Russ Mitchell makes his major league debut tonight starting at first base and batting seventh, as the Dodgers try and salvage a win on getaway night.
its good to see one of the new guys getting a start, but it should be everyone.
as youve noticed the top of the order looks exactly the same with POD then Theriot.

the Dodgers are now 69-70 and mired in fourth place 10 games back. Ive said it before, these are meaningless games and Torre needs to start the new guys so we can find out more about them. but Torre keeps starting POD and theriot 1-2 almost every game. Hit machine bats third, and blake again bats cleanup. Reed Johnson gets another rare start in right field in place of ethier who gets the day off, as the team will fly to Houston right after the game to begin a four game series.
but really does he have to start? why not play Gibbons? or how about starting the new australian outfielder Trent Oeltjen. He was called up after the club finally got rid of Ronnie Belliard. however I did read that the Dodgers are planning on giving John Lindsey some playing time in the upcoming Houston series. Fine by me they can even stick Lindsey in LF if they want and I wouldnt care just get him some playing time.

because honestly we dont need to see another three weeks of loney and ethier looking like statues at the plate, or Kemp's quest for the 200K holy grail.

Chad Billingsley takes the mound for the dodgers, looking for his 12th win, and he has always pitched very well against SD. the Padres will counter with 25 year old Lefy Cory Luebke, who is starting in place of Leblanc. Luebke is making his second carreer start and is 0-1. go blue!
