Dodgers shutout again, and the beat goes on and on and on.......

Dodgers 0 3 2
Padres   4 9 0
WP-Luebke 1-1
LP-Billingsley 11-9
SV-Gregerson-2

The Dodgers were shutout again tonight, losing to the Padres 4-0 and being swept at SD in a three game series for the first time since 2007.
this was the 16th shutout of the season for the Dodgers.

no real suprise here. the dodgers shutout and the beat goes on. not much to talk about really, and no one really cares how they were beat, but if your a glutton for punishment like I am, just read on.

Chad Billingsley tried his darndest to keep the Dodgers in the game, but we all knew in the 1st inning they werent going to be scoring any runs again.

Bills lasted until he was yanked in the 6th inning, but it was typical 2010 Dodgers, bad luck and terrible defense.

the padres scored a run in the third inning, when with 1 out tiny speedster Luis Durango beat out a routine grounder to theriot, when he double clutched his throw. Durango stole second and after a Headly strikeout, Gonzalez was intentionally walked for Tejada. Tejada singled up the middle to score Durango easily. after a walk to notorious Dodger killer Matt Stairs, Bills got out of it by retiring Torrealba on a force out.

up 1-0 the Padres broke it open and loaded the bases again in the 6th. more defensive lapses cost the dodgers again. a bloop single by venable and cabrera in an attempt to sacrifice beats out a lazy Dodgers defense. eckstein came up next to sacrifice bunt again, this time he was safe as Big Rod (who clearly cant throw at all) tried to get the lead runner at third base, throwing to late and the bases were loaded with nobody out. with the infield up, speedster durango singled over the drawn in infield scoring two and the score 3-0.

The Padres added another run when everyone was safe after Russ Mitchell's throw to second hit Durango in the back and the bases were loaded once more. Eckstein scored later on a fly ball from gonzalez.

Billingsley allowed 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 in 5 1/3.

I knew Torre would do his damdest to make sure nothing positive comes out of the final month of the season. several new Dodgers made their debut appearances tonight.  Russ Mitchell was started at first base tonight in place of Loney. Mitchell went 0 for 2 striking out in hist first at bat. new Australian outfielder Trent Oeltjen made his first appearance, pinch hitting for Big Rod in the 8th and flying out,

but the real classless moment happened in the top of the 7th. with 1 out and two runners on, Joe Torre pulled the most classless move ive ever seen from him, and that should say alot. John Lindsey was out on deck to pinch hit and was announced, only to be called back for another pinch hitter once SD made a pitching change. Ethier came up and did what everyone in the universe new he would do. ground into an inning ending double play!........

Padres rooking starter Cory Luebke shutout the Dodgers for 6 innings in his second career start. he allowed only 2 hits walked 1 and struck out 7. he picked up his first major league win.

the Padres used four more relief pitchers with Gregerson pitching the 9th inning picking up a save.

the Dodgers offense was pathetic and non-existent as usual. managing to get only 3 hits, the Kemp double the only extra base hit, and drawing only 2 walks.

a few bright points to cling to are....

1.Lindsey should start tomorrow in the Houston series, and since hes from there alot of his family and friends should be on hand to watch his MLB debut.
2.The Dodgers elimination number is now at 13 games. which means 13 more days until Torre announces his retirement!
3.rolling over three straight days stops the Giants from moving into a first place tie. there now 2 games back after losing to AZ, with COL 4 1/2 games back.

Lilly vs Norris tomorrow at 5 in Houston. see ya friday!
