8-5, The Giants Keep Hope Alive

Dodgers 5 13 1
Giants    8 12 1
WP- Vogelsong (12-7)
LP- Eveland (2-2)
S- Wilson (36)
HR- KEMvP (35)

The Dodgers slip back to .500 after the Giants and Vogelsong snap their 4 game winning streak. Dana Eveland gave up three runs in the 1st inning after making 29 pitches, and only lasted four innings in another disappointing outing. In an otherwise meaningless game, we at least got to see Matt KEMvP hit his 35th homerun of the season.

Eveland has pitched horribly at Dodger Stadium, and he starts off shaky right away in the 1st inning. Pesky Christian gets an infield single to lead off, but Keppinger hits into a double play. Beltran doubles, and Pill singles him in giving the Giants a 1-0 lead. Eveland walks Belt and DeRosa, and then Fontenot doubles both of them in, 3-0. In the bottom half of the inning Gordon leads off with a single and steals second (#23). Carroll bunts him to 3rd, KEMvP walks, but Rivera hits a comebacker into a double play to end the inning.

In the 2nd Vogelsong whiffs, Christian reaches on a typical Miles error, but Keppinger hits into an inning ending double play. Loney and Ellis single in the bottom of the second, but Eveland flies out to end any hope of scoring.

In the third Beltran is hit by the pitch, and we are told later that he bruised his foot. Pill hits into a force, and Belt hits into a double play which is the third double play in as many innings. The Dodgers go down in order in the bottom of the third.

The Giants score more off Eveland in the 4th when DeRosa singles, Stewart walks, and Vogelsong bunts the runners over, and Christian then doubles in DeRosa and Stewart making it 5-0. In the bottom of the 4th Loney and Miles have back-to-back singles but then Sands and Ellis have back-to-back whiffs.

Eveland only goes 4 innings, allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks, and striking out 1 on 70 pitches.

Blake Hawksworth comes in to pitch the 5th, and strikes out Beltran, but then Pill singles when Gordon drops the ball in shallow left field. That should have been caught by Rivera. Pill is doubled up caught stealing second while Belt strikes out. In the bottom of the 5th Eugenio Velez keeps his 0 for 33 streak intact by getting hit by the pitch. This is the only way Velez reaches base, so we'll take it. Gordon singles, and Carroll singles in Velez, 5-1. Then Bison comes up and hits a monster 414 foot 3-run homerun into the pavillion making it a closer 5-4 game. That's #35 for Bison! Miles singles, but Sands strikes out.
Bison Hits #35
MVP!!!

Lindblom comes into pitch the 6th. DeRosa promptly singles, Gillaspie walks, and Christian once again singles in DeRosa, 6-4. Keppinger whiffs to end the inning. Former Dodger Guilermo Mota comes in for the Giants in relief and strikes out Gordon and sends the Dodgers down in order.

Vogelsong goes 5 innings, allowing 9 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and striking out 3 on 104 pitches.

A very shaky Kuo comes in and walks Torres and allows a Pill double which scores Torres making it 7-4. Donnie brings in Guerrier and DeRosa hits a sac fly which scores Pill, 8-4. Ramirez pitches the 7th for the Giants and allows a Carroll single, then whiffs Bison and Rivera. Bochy seemingly threatened by Loney (wow can't believe that's happening now) brings in the the lefty Lopez. Loney lines out to DeRosa.

Troncoso pitches a nice 123 inning in the 8th striking out Christian. In the bottom of the 8th with Lopez still in, Miles whiffs, Sands singles and takes second on a Belt error. Sands extends his hitting streak to 9 games. Blackbeard Jr. comes in and both Ellis and Big Rod pathetically strike out on 6 pitches by Romo.

Ely is brought into pitch the 9th and promptly serves up a single to Keppinger, Burris runs for him and steals second. Torres singles. Pill hits a comebacker. Belt is intentionally walked to load the bases with 1 out. DeRosa strikes out. Sandoval is brought up to pinch-hit and hits a line drive right to Carroll. Amazingly Ely gets out of the inning unscathed. Casilla starts out the bottom of the 9th and the Dodgers have one of their futile late rallies. KEMvP singles which is his 184th hit of the season. Rivera walks. Bochy then brings in Blackbeard to close it out. Loney hits a pop-fly single which scores KEMvP, 8-5.  Miles flies out to end the game.

So we learned that Eveland most likely is not the answer to our 5th starter issues. Either is Ely. I'd like to see Eovaldi get another start, but I doubt that is going to happen. Tomorrow the rubber game of the series is both our last game of the season against the Giants and the final home game of the year before we embark on the last road trip of the season. Hiroki Kuroda will fittingly take the mound for what might be his last start at Dodger Stadium. Join us tomorrow Dodger fans!

The Giants Can't Get Past Us Without a Fight

Giants @ Dodgers
Game 2
7:10pm

Dana Eveland (2-1, 2.25) vs. Ryan Vogelsong (11-7, 2.68)
Dana Eveland with the COC Cougars in 2003
Last night Lincecum, the Freak, was Sandblasted and Kershified as the Dodgers took game one and gave Bruce Bochy some heartburn. Any postseason hope for the Giants is withering away, and the Dodgers look to continue their spoiler role today in game 2. AZ's magic number is down to 3 to clinch the NL West Division, and the Giants elimination number for the wild card is 4. ClaYton Kershaw has had one of the most special years I have ever witnessed by a Dodger pitcher. It makes the disappointment of not making the playoffs this season a little less sour. I can remember some of the great Dodger pitchers of our generation like Ramon Martinez, Orel Hershiser, Fernando Valenzuela, Hideo Nomo, Pedro Martinez, Eric Gagne, etc. Yet Clayton Kershaw is really in a league by himself. He's only going to get better too, and winning his first Cy Young award will most likely be the first of many accomplishments to come. Wouldn't be awesome to see him pitch in the World Series, Dodger fans?

Clayton Pops Open Some Bubbly After His 20th Win
Dana Eveland will try to keep the Dodgers above .500 tonight while he attempts to redeem himself from his last start against Pittsburgh. He lost to Ohlendorf who hit a 3-run homerun against him. Eveland faced Vogelsong before on September 10th when he pitched an impressive 7 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits. 2 of the hits were dished up to Pablo Sandoval, and he most likely he will not be starting because of a sore shoulder. Vogelsong has had a comeback type season, and he will be vying for his 12th win and doing everything he can to postpone the inevitable demise of the Giants season.

Lineup:

Gordon 6
Carroll 4
Kemp 8
Rivera 7
Loney 3
Miles 5
Sands 9
Ellis 2
Eveland 1

Today is Scott's birthday, so he's getting a much-needed night to go out and party or perhaps relax at home and enjoy the game. Let's get a win for him tonight! Ironically Dana Eveland attended the same college as Scott, so perhaps one College of the Canyons alumni will prove the other proud.

Watch the game on Prime Ticket, then join us after for our postgame recap! Go Blue!

Kershaw wins 20th as Dodgers screw Giants

Giants    1 6 0
Dodgers 2 8 2
WP-Kershaw-20-5
LP-Lincecum-13-13
SV-Guerra-19
HR-Sands-4-Stewart-3

Clayton Kershaw made history tonight at Dodger stadium, by becoming the first Dodger pitcher to win 20 games in a season since Ramon Martinez did it back in 1990.
Kershaw improved his record this year to 5-0 against the Giants, and 4-0 in head to head matchup with Lincecum. in the four Head to Head games with Lincecum, the Dodgers and Kershaw have won three by a score of 2-1 and one by a score of 1-0.

Our Ace wins his 20th. he is the Cy Young
Kershaw outpitched Lincecum for the fourth time. pitching 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run off 6 hits. walking two and whiffing 6. Lincecum in comparison pitched 7 innings allowing two runs walking two, and whiffing 5. Lincecum made 112 pitches, while Kersh made 116.
once again it was a true team effort. Loney drove in an early run with a run scoring single, and Jerry Sands continued his torrid hitting with a mammoth home run off Lincecum that put the Dodgers ahead 2-0.

with Kershaw tiring in the 8th inning, the Dodger Bullpen came to the rescue. Jansen whiffed two batters in the 8th, and Guerra pitched a scoreless 9th picking up his 19th save and preserving Kershaw's 20th victory.
with the win, the Dodgers improve to 77-76. the first time they have been above the .500 mark since april 29th. The loss for the Giants was a big blow to their already dwindling playoff hopes.

In the top of the first, Torres grounds one to Miles, and his throw is low, and Loney is unable to pick it. its an error on Miles. with Keppinger at bat, Torres is thrown out stealing by Big Rod, as Keppinger swings and misses at a high pitch. it might have been a busted hit and run play. Keppinger flies out to Rivera. Beltran's pop fly single, falls into no man's land in between three Dodgers in left field, but with Derosa at bat, Beltran is picked off of first base.

Bottom of the first. after Gordon flies out, and Sellers pops out. three consecutive singles from Kemp, Rivera, and Loney give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead. Loneys hit was a run scoring single, which plated Matt Kemp.

Kemp scores the first run
top of the second. Kershaw pitches a 123 inning, whiffing Pill. bottom of the second. Sands still red hot blasts a Lincecum breaking ball halfway up the left field bleachers. 2-0 Dodgers. Kershaw walks on four pitches. Lincecum looks rattled. but Gordon flies out, Sellers whiffs to end the inning.

Top third, Christian leads off with a double past Miles down the line. Stewart pops out. with Lincecum at bat, Christian steals third. Big Rod can't make a throw because the ball slips out of his hand. Lincecum's little tapper in front of the plate can't score Christian. Kershaw whiffs Torres, and the Dodgers get out of it.

Bottom of the third, with two outs, Loney doubles off the wall in left, but Miles grounds out. still 2-0 Dodgers.

top of the 4th, Keppinger grounds to the box. Miles can't handle Beltran's one hop smash. ugghh poor Miles. Derosa flies out, and Pill flies to Sands, who has to make an over the shoulder catch.

Bottom of the 4th. Sands walks, Big Rod's long fly ball. Kershaw sacrifices Sands to second. Lincecum walks Gordon. Sellers whiffs on a called strike three. Lincecum is out of it.

top of the 5th. Cabrerra grounds out. Christian beats out a grounder to Gordon. but Christian is picked off of First base by Kershaw. Then Stewart singles to left, and Lincecum whiffs to end the top of the 5th.

bottom of the 5th, the Dodgers threaten. Kemp and Rivera lead off with singles. Loney flies out. Miles flies out, and Kemp is thrown out stealing third. tis ok Bison. still 2-0 Dodgers after 5.

Kershaw has a 123 inning in the 6th, whiffing Beltran. Lincecum responds with a 123 6th inning of his own.

Kershaw whiffs Derosa to start the 7th. then whiffs Pill on a really nasty breaking ball. Cabrerra grounds out ending the 7th.

Gordon's bloop single is dropped by Christian in left field, despite a diving effort. Lincecum leaps off the mound to catch Sellers sacrifice bunt attempt. Kemp whiffs, while Gordon steals second. number 22 for Gordon. Rivera grounds out and the Dodgers don't score.

Top of the 8th, kershaw begins to tire out. Christian flies out. Stewart homers just over the left field wall. 2-1 Dodgers. Kersh walks pinch hitter Burrell. theres a wild pitch sending pinch runner Ford to second. Kersh walks Torres. Mattingly immediately brings a hook, and calls in Jansen. Kershaw gets a standing ovation from the crowd as he walks off. Kersh could win it, lose it, or have nothing to do with it. we all hold our collective breaths for kersh. but once again the Dodger bullpen would come to the rescue.

Panda whiffs off of Jansen in the 8th by by Panda

with runners at first and second and 1 out, Jansen ( who is awesome) enters with a strikeout to walk line of 85/24. Bochy plays his trump card. an injured Pablo Sandoval is asked to pinch hit. forced to bat left handed, Jansen whiffs him pathetically. then Jansen whiffs Beltran to end the 8th. Kershaw's lead is preserved, and Jansen hugs Kersh in the dugout. make that 87 whiffs!

Runzler retires the first two hitters in the bottom of the 8th. Romo (blackbeard Jr.) retires Sands to end the frame.

top of the 9th with the Dodgers still leading 2-1. Guerra (Ice Man) enters to close up. Guerra goes to field Derosa's little tapper, and throws wide pulling Loney off the bag. E-1 on Guerra. Pill flies out to Sands. Huff comes off the bench and hits into a game ending 3-6-3 double play! Dodgers win! Kershaw wins his 20th!

Kershaw now leads in all three pitching triple crown categories, wins, tied with Kennedy with 20. ERA with 2.27, and strikeouts with 242.
Kershaw is 5-0 against San Francisco, and 4-0 against Lincecum. he's only allowed 1 earned run to the Giants all year. to give you an idea of how dominating he has been, only one other Dodger pitcher has gone 5-0 against the Giants in  one season. (Vic Lombardi in 46). there should be no argument. Clayton Kershaw is the 2011 NL Cy Young award winner.
oh and the Dodgers are now officially a winning team. the Giants lose a game in the standings, and on the calendar. looks like there will be no postseason for the Giants this year. hey if we can't go, then you can't either San Francisco. tomorrow is my birthday, and I will be off celebrating. Stacie will return to cover my Bday edition of DBF. tomorrows matchup at 705 is COC graduate Dana Eveland vs. Vogelsong.
Another historic chapter has been written in this great rivalry between the Dodgers and the Giants. sorry for the lateness of this guys, but I felt this game deserved a proper recap. revenge is a dish best served cold is it not? GO BLUE

Tim Lincecum-13-12 vs. Clayton Kershaw-19-5

Well here we are. the Final home series. fittingly the last three home games of the 2011 season, are against our hated rival the Giants. The Giants are coming in fresh off an 8 game winning streak. they swept the Padres and Colorado, before coming into town.
this won't be just any old season ending series between the two clubs. another historic chapter in the Dodgers and Giants rivalry will be written. The Giants winning streak has propelled them back into the race. while there 5 games behind Arizona, in the NL west. there only 3.5 games behind Atlanta for the NL wildcard. however the Cardinals are right on their tail as well, a game ahead of San Francisco, and 2.5 games behind Atlanta. With everything on the line for the Giants, as they make one final hail mary run at the postseason, nothing is at stake for the Dodgers. they've already been eliminated from both races, and are now back to .500 after beating Pittsburgh 3 in a row, including their 15-1 drubbing yesterday. The Dodgers are now 76-76, third place in the NL west.

however the Dodgers find themselves in the position of the spoiler role. this is a role the Dodgers haven't been in quite a while, but its happened before with these two teams.

The Iconic images above will be forever ingrained in our memories. it all started in 1951 with Bobby Thompson's shot heard around the world. there was Joe Morgon's home run in 82 that knocked us out on the last day. but we returned the favor with Mike Piazza's two beautiful home runs which knocked the then 103 win Giants out of the playoffs on the final day of the 1993 season, as Nancy Bea Hefley serenaded the players with, I left my heart in San Francisco on her organist, to twist the knife further. then of coarse there was 2004, and Steve Finley's unforgettable grand slam home run, knocking the Giants out on the second to last day of the season, the Dodgers winning the division title, and our jubilance.

we have the chance to do it again. with Clayton Kershaw on the mound looking for his 20th win of the season. more history in this matchup. this is the fourth time this season, Clayton Kershaw and Tim Lincecum will match up, with Kersh winning the first three battles.
Kershaw has the lowest ERA in history for any pitcher against the Giants. he's 5-1 with a 1.26 ERA. he absolutely owns the Giants, and could become the first Dodger pitcher since Ramon Martinez in 1990 to win 20 games. standing in his way is Lincecum, who is of coarse no slouch against the Dodgers. he is 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA. However he's always out pitched by Kershaw. runs should be at a premium in today's game. a 20th win would surly help lock up the Cy Young for Kershaw. you would think so.

I actually care more about Kershaw getting his 20th win, then knocking the Giants out of the playoffs. well actually I must confess, I want both. I want my cake and to eat it too. I want Kersh to win his 20th, while knocking the Giants back a game. a loss would certainly spell doom for the Giants withering playoff hopes.
This is it boys in blue. the last chance to make a difference. the last home series. join us late tonight after the game for our post game recap. game time is at 705.
in order for the Giants to get to the playoffs, there gonna have to beat us and Kershaw first. not if the Dodgers have anything to say about it. GO BLUE

Dodgers Hit Parade Blowsout Bucs 15-1

Pirates       1  7 0
Dodgers  15 23 0
WP-Billingsley-11-10
LP-Lincoln-1-3
HR-Kemp-34-Sands-3

The Dodgers blasted the Bucs 15-1 today. Chad Billingsley who had four no-decisions in a row, and had been pitching very poorly of late righted the ship pitching 5 solid innings of 1 run ball.
The Dodgers exploded by scoring three runs in the first, 6 runs in the second, and two more in the third.
Loney had five hits. Kemp, Gordon, and Rivera, had three hits, and Sands had four hits, with Sands driving in four runs. Kemp and Sands both hit home runs during the fireworks. all tolled the Dodgers scored 15 runs on 23 hits.

It was a long day for Brad Lincoln

Bills looked much better today and he starts off by pitching a scoreless first inning. he whiffs Presley and Xman, McCutchen singles and steals second. Doumit flies out.

bottom of the first, the Dodgers teed off of Pirates rookie Brad Lincoln. Gordon leads off and triples into the gap. he scores on Carroll's ground out. 1-0 Dodgers. Bison hits a mammoth home run to deep center field. his 34th of the season. 2-0 Dodgers. they would add one more run. Loney singles. Miles singles Loney to third. Sandman's base hit up the middle scores Loney. 3-0 Dodgers. Ellis whiffs to end the first.

Bills pitches a scoreless second. he walked Alvarez, but whiffs Cedeno.

The Dodgers score 6 runs in the second inning, all with two outs. heres how it happened. it was pretty awesome I must say.
Bills singles to open the bottom of the second. Gordon sacrifices him to second. Carroll lines out. Bison singles home Bills. 4-0 Dodgers. thats 113 RBI for Bison.
Rivera's line drive base hit sends Kemp to third. finally Clint Hurdle had seen enough and brings a hook for the rookie Lincoln. Aaron Thompson relieves Lincoln. the rook only lasts 1.2 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits.
Loney greets Thompson with a double over McCutchen's head, scoring Kemp and Rivera. 6-0 Dodgers.
Miles walks, and Sandman hits one up into the left field bleachers for a home run. its a three run shot 9-0 Dodgers. Sandman is red hot. thats his third home run with the Dodgers. Ellis walks, and we have a good ol' fashion rout. Bills comes up again, remember he led off the inning with a single. he grounds out and the inning is finally over.

Bills gets through the third inning. Xman singled. McCutchen walked. but Bills whiffs Doumit to get out of it.

Some guy named Leroux is on the mound for the Bucs. Gordon walks. Carroll lines out. Bison doubles off the wall in right field. the ball almost going out as Xavier Paul (Xman) slips on the warning track.
Rivera's base hit scores Gordon and Kemp. its now 11-0! holy crap what a shellacking!
Loney Singles, and the hits just keep on comin' Miles groundout moves the runners to second and third.

Hurdle is forced to remove Leroux. Enter Chris Resop. he whiffs sands at that ends the third. but its 11-0 and in case your wondering, no there is no mercy rule in the majors.

Bills pitches a scoreless fourth, retiring walker jones and Alvarez.

The Bucs score in the top of the 5th. with 1 out, D'arnoud batting for resop singles. Presley flies out. Xman, doubles scoring D'arnoud. 11-1. McCutchen's long drive to center is caught by Bison as he leaps against the wall. great catch!

Kemp makes another great catch
Evan Meek enters to pitch the 5th. Kemp with a chance for a cycle whiffs. Rivera walks, Loney's bloop single to center gives him his fourth hit. Miles walks to load the bases. Sands whiffs. Ellis draws a walk to force in a run. 12-1 Dodgers. Hurdle makes another pitching change, and Daniel McCutchen whiffs Bills.

top of the 6th, with Kuo on the mound, Kemp is removed as Trent Oeltjen replaces him. I would have liked to see Kemp stay in to go for the cycle, but Mattinlgy wanted him to get a well deserved standing ovation from the crowd. as Bison walks to the dugout, Dodger fans stand and chant MVP.....MVP!
our MVP center fielder ducks into the dugout. Matt KeMVP
Kuo pitches a 123 6th inning, but the crowd was still buzzing. Bills final line is 5 innings 1 run 4 hits 2 walks and 5 whiffs. Bills made 98 pitches and qualifies for the win.

Gorodn and Carroll both single to lead off the bottom of the 6th. the Dodgers just don't stop do they? Oeltjen now hitting for Kemp, moves the runners over with a grounder to first. Rivera's room service fly ball to right center falls in between Presley and Xman. neither could figure out who was gonna catch the ball. Gordon and Carroll both score. its 14-1 Charitable scoring gives Rivera a double. theres a wild pitch that moves him to third. then Loney collects another hit to score Rivera. 15-1. Mitchell singles to left. Thats the Dodgers 20th hit of the game. unbelievable. Sandman another hit loads the bases again. Ellis ends the inning by hitting into an around the horn double play.

With the game well in hand John Ely makes a cameo in the 7th inning. he pitches a scoreless frame.
Ely also pitches a scoreless 8th inning.

Move to the top of the 9th with the score still 15-1 Dodgers. Troncosco comes in to finish the game. Jones pops out, Alvarez whiffs. Cedeno singles. Ciriaco singles. Presley grounds out to end it. Dodgers win 15-1.

this was quite a parade of hits wasn't it? With this win the Dodgers are now back to .500 at 76-76. just five more wins for a winning season. The Dodgers will have monday off, and then the Giants will come in for one last battle. the final three home games of the 2011 season begin on tuesday night. Clayton Kershaw will go for his 20th win, hell draw Tim Lincecum again for the fourth time. Kershaw has beaten Timmy all three times.  Expect a late post game edition on tuesday. Ill be in class until 10 or so, but Ill be keeping an eye on the scoreboard and will watch the game on replay after class. Tuesday night's battle deserves a proper recap. btw I sorted out my internet issues. Lets just sayTimewarner sucks.
Join us on tuesday at 705, as we continue to chronicle the journey of the Dodgers Baseball season. we've got one final chance to stick it to the Giants. One last act of defiance before we head into winter. The Giants have won 8 in a row and are trying one final hail mary run to get to the playoffs. not if we have anything to say about it. GO BLUE

Sorry guys, but Ive been having some issues with my Internet. fortunatly, the issues seem to be fixed. more of the joy of having a connection through timewarner cable.

anyways, the Dodgers and Bucs will do battle one last time as the Dodgers have taken the first two out of three.
The Bucs have run out of former Dodgers to throw at us. today theyll start rookie Brad Lincoln. weve seen alot of rooks in this series. Lincoln is 1-2, and 0-1 against the Dodgers.

The Dodgers will counter with Chad Billingsley. Bills is looking to righ the4 ship here, and finish the season on a good note. he is 10-10 against the league, but 4-1 against the Pirates. it seems he usually pitches well against the Bucs, so lets hope that continues today.

nothing new to report really, the Dodgers are off tomorrow, and then the last three home games against the Giants.

Dodgers eat Jmac for lunch as Lilly gets 10th win

Pirates    1  7 2
Dodgers 6 12 0
WP-Lilly-10-14
LP-Mcdonald-9-9
HR-Loney-11-Rivera-4

The Dodgers found themselves once again facing an old teammate. former Dodger prospect James Mcdonald, who was traded to the Pirates last season, faced off against Ted Lilly and the Dodgers saturday night.

before the game we learned that Atlanta had won and the Dodgers had been officially eliminated from the wild card race. were just playing for pride now.

Ted Lilly had one of his strongest outings of the year, pitching 7 innings, allowing 1 run off 4 hits, and whiffing 7. Lilly made 97 pitches as he picked up his 10th win. Jmac however had a terrible start. everyone joined in on the fun as Kemp, rivera, Loney, and Gordon each had two hits, and Sands had three. Loney and Rivera hit home runs, and Kemp stole his 40th base. heres how it happened.

After Lilly sets the down the Bucs in order in the top of the first, the Dodgers jump all over Jmac in the first  inning for three runs.
Gordon beats out a grounder for an infield single. which Sellers at bat, he is picked off of First base for a TOOTBLAN.
Sellers walks. Kemp flies to right. Rivera singles Sellers to third. that Gordon TOOTBLAN is looking big now. our Comeback kid, James Loney homers again in his second straight at bat. he clobbered a pitch halfway up the right field bleachers. Loney's 11th home run gives the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.

Loney celebrates after hitting his 11th homer
Lilly coughs up a run in the second, Lee and Ludwick both walk. Wood flies out. harrison's double down the line scores Lee. 3-1 Dodgers. Lilly settles down though. Mckenry flies out, and Jmac grounds out to end the frame.

move to the bottom of the third. with the score 3-1, Jmac continued to meltdown like chefs on a quarter pounder.
Kemp singles, Rivera homers into the Dodger bullpen for his fourth with the Dodgers, and Kemp scores his 100th run. 5-1 Dodgers!
Loney doubles inside the third base line, as the ball rolls to the tarp. The Pirates have a meeting on the mound. Miles pops out. Loney advances to third on a wild pitch.  but Sands and Fedex both whiff to end the inning.

Lilly whiffs two more in the top of the 4th. giving him 6 whiffs already.

Jmac was lifted after only 4 innings. he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, and showed us we didn't miss much with him.

Miles makes a great diving play on a Mckenry grounder, as Lilly rolls right through the 5th inning.

in the bottom of the 5th, the Dodgers picked up another run, off reliever Daniel Moskos.  with 1 out, Miles reaches when Derek Lee drops a throw from Brandon Wood. they give Lee an error. Sands and Fedex both single, with Miles scoring. 6-1 Dodgers. were seeing the blue future here with all these youngsters.
Lilly sacrifices the runners to second and third, but Gordon is out on a nice play by Walker.

Lilly whiffs Ludwick to end the 6th. thats 7 whiffs for Lilly now. still 6-1 Dodgers.

Kemp after fouling a pitch off of his foot in the bottom of the 6th, singles, and then steals his 40th base of the year. congrats Bison! Kemp takes third on the throwing error by Mckenry. Rivera whiffs. Loney walks.
Rookie Jared Hughes gets Miles to ground out. its 6-1 Dodgers.

Lilly allows just a double in the 7th but thats it. Lilly through 7 innings, only 1 run on 4 hits and 7 whiffs. probably one of Lilly's best games of the season. I might have to stop making fun of him if he keeps pitching this well.

Jerry Sands collects his third hit of the game in the 7th, a double. Sandman is red hot right now.

Eovaldi comes in for the 8th with the Dodgers still up 6-1. D'arnaud singles. Mccutchen singles him to third. he hits Lee with a pitch. finally Mattingly brings a hook for the sketchy youngster. of coarse with the bases loaded. Jansen is brought in so Donnie is in no mood to screw around tonight. Jansen begins by falling behind to Ludwick 3-0, and battles back to whiff him. Jansen then whiffs garret Jones. thats Jones' 100th whiff of the season.

Veras pitches the bottom of the 8th for Pittsburg, and does his job, and we go to the bottom of the 9th, with the Dodgers leading 6-1.

Dougie, the new baby daddy, comes in for the 9th. he whiffs Harrison. Mckenry pops out to gordon. Alvarez walks. Presley singles up the middle. D'arnoud grounds out to end the game. Dodgers win :)
great game. the Dodgers now need just 6 more wins for a winning season. join us tomorrow afternoon as the Dodgers finish off the bucs on fan appreciation day. Chad Billingsley will take the mound. then the last three home games of the season against the Giants. with the win the Dodgers improve to 39-38 at home.
