Clayton Kershaw-17-5 vs. Randall Delgado-
Can you smell what the Dodgers are cooking' I sure do. I smell .500. yes I can. its so close I can almost taste it.
I had trouble sleeping last night. sheer joy can do that to you. the Dodgers play game three of this three game series today in Atlanta looking for the sweep, and looking to win their 7th in a row.
seeing Matt Kemp, and Tony Gwynn doing some kind of happy jiggly dance in the dugout, right before last night's game tells you a lot. this team, is happy, loose, and worry free. there playing great Baseball, but have the Dodgers ran out of time?
theres even been improvement from Mattingly. he's mixing and matching very well, he's been good at meltdown prevention lately, also the bullpen has been just awesome lately. however he's still doing the burning crap. please no more bunting Donnie.
the Dodgers will give the ball to ace lefty Calyton Kershaw. he is having a cy young season. he is 17-5 with a 2.45 ERA. he has 212 strikeouts to lead the league, and 5 complete games. the Dodgers are hoping hell give them a lot of innings today since the bullpen could use a rest. Kershaw does not have a decision against Atlanta. but has a 2.42 ERA and 25 whiffs. Kersh is 9-1 in his last 10 starts.
Atlanta will counter with young righty Randall Delgado. Jair Jurgens was supposed to start but was scratched due to a knee injury. this is delgado's third start, last time he nearly no-hit the Gaints. he is 0-1 this year against the league with a 3.60 ERA. we have never seen this guy before.
Ramon Troncoso was called up just in case. lets hope we never have to use him. looks like we could use Guerrier. isn't that funny? we actually need him. he is due back off of Paternity leave on monday, since rosters have already expanded no other move is needed.
todays game is at 1035 on KCAL. join us after the game for our daily recap. lets sweep these bastards! stop the chop! with each day brings new hope. together we rise. together we stand. GO BLUE.

Gordon's speed, and Dodger bullpen extend win streak to 6

The Dodgers winning streak reached 6 games tonight in Atlanta, as the Dodgers beat the Braves 2-1 in 10 innings. the game was tied at 1-1 through the entire game, until the Dodgers were able to pull it out and score a run in the top of the 10th, before Javy Guerra closed shop picking up his 15th save. Nathan Eovaldi pitched 6 innings of 1 run ball, in what should be his last start before being moved to the bullpen.
A.J. Ellis slugged his second homer of the season to put the Dodgers on the board, Dee Gordon's leg Double put the winning run into scoring position and Rivera's scoring fly ball brought him home easily from third base.
The Dodger bullpen was lights out, as Kuo, Elbert, Dougie, Jansen, and Guerra didn't allow anything to the powerful Atlanta offense.
The Dodger defense also came up big again today, turning several key double plays to keep the braves from scoring throughout a very Sketchy game.
top of the second, Ellis slugs his second homer of the season over the left center field wall. 1-0 Dodgers.
in the bottom of the second, the Braves would answer right back, as Dan Uggla slams his 32nd home run, and second of the series. 1-1 tie game. his home run was another deep bomb.
Eovaldi would get flustered, allowing a single to Chipper Jones.but Freeman grounds into a double play, and Heyward whiffs.
the Dodgers couldn't score Loney from second after he doubles in the third off of Mike Minor.
the Dodger defense once again turns another double play in the bottom of the third to keep the Braves from scoring. gonzalez walks, Minor bunts out, Bourne singles Gonzalez to third. dammit he's a speedy bastard aint he?
but, Prado grounds into another double play.
top of the 4th, Rivera walks, Mitchell playing for Miles who was given a day off, singles rivera to second. but Gwynn whiffs, and the Dodgers get a taste of their own medicine. Ellis whiffs, on a busted hit and run play, and Rivera is left out to dry, and thats that.
move to the bottom of the 5th, as the Dodgers get another double play. Gonzalez walks, Minor's bunt once again is bad, and the Dodgers get the lead runner out at second. Bourne's sharp liner is snared by a leaping James Loney, who has been paling fantastic lately. Loney touches the bag at first and throws to second for the double play. were still tied.
the game would get more sketchy as we moved along. in the top of the 6th, Russelll Mitchell singles, but Gwynn grounds into a double play. still tied at 1-1.
O'flaherty pitches a scoreless inning for Atlanta in relief for Minor.
Elbert comes in for the 7th. he gets Freeman to fly out to Kemp. Matt Diaz who has rejoined the Braves, pinch hitting singles up the middle. Constanza pinch runs for him. Donnie comes out and brings the hook, Enter Kenley Jansen. somehow Jansen balks, and Constanza goes to second. but Jansen whiffs Hinske, and Gonzalez and the Braves get nothin'
top of the 8th, High sock wearing tough lefty Jonny Venters is in. Sellers singles into right field, and Dee Gordon pinch runs for him. then Donnie does his bunting crap again, asking Loney, who was 2 for 3 to bunt. he does bunt and move Gordon over to third, and I know that Kemp was on deck, but with first base open they will just walk him, and why are you having your number 2 hitter in the lineup who's your hottest hitter at the moment bunting? come on Donnie.
well anyways I won't be too hard on Donnie since the Dodgers are playing outstanding baseball, and even Donnie has been making better in-game decisions lately. to no one;s surprise. Kemp is intentionally walked. theres a passed ball that sends Gordon to third. but Rivera and Mitchell both whiff and thats all in the top of the 8th.
bottom of the 8th, Jansen still in, whiffs McCann and Uggla, and were still tied going to the 9th.
top of the 9th, and we get to see the Braves league leading save leader Craig Kimbrel, who has 41 saves, a 1.19 ERA, and a strikeout to walk line of 110/25. he gets Gwynn to ground out. Ellis walks. Velez pinch runs for him. but Carroll whiffs, and Ethier who had the day off as well, also Whiff hitting for Jansen.
Bottom of the 9th, here is where things get really sketchy. Kuo comes in and relieves Jansen. Jones and Freeman both ground out. then Constanza beats out a grounder to short, for an infield single. the play was close.
Donnie instantly comes out with a hook, and brings in Dougie. were all on pins and needles here. Dougie throws hard, but has trouble locating his pitches. Alex Gonzalez singles Constanza to second. Brooks Conrad pinch hits for Kimbrel. we start praying. with two strikes, Dougie throws a borderline cut fastball on the corner, he gets the call, for a called strike three. and the Dodgers get out of it! Phew! I was sweating bullets.
top of the 10th. extra innings now. Varvaro on to pitch now. Dee Gordon uses his electrifying speed to win it for the Dodgers. he slaps a hit into center, and with his speed, he's into second base easily with a leg double. Loney is asked to bunt again, and does, sending Gordon to third. Kemp is intentionally walked again. Rivera's sac fly to center is plenty deep to score Gordon. DODGERS TAKE THE LEAD 2-1!!!!
bottom of the 10th, Guerra on to close shop. Bourne and Prado ground out, and Mccann whiffs, and the Dodgers win their 6th in a row!!!
Dougie picks up a win, Guerra his 15th save, and Dee a game ball. Clayton Kershaw will go to the mound tomorrow looking for his 18th win. now Atlanta is really in trouble. game time is at 1030AM on KCAL.
join us tomorrow as the Dodgers look for the sweep! very good game today, had me sweating but we pulled it out. this Dodger team is no pushover no more. with each day brings new hope. Together we rise, together we stand. GO BLUE

Nathan Eovaldi-1-2 vs. Mike Minor-4-2
the blazing hot Dodgers are on a roll. after coming from behind to score 5 runs in the 7th inning to win 8-6, the Dodgers have won 10 out of 11 and 12 out of 15. the Dodgers are really playing fantastic baseball. thanks to a new and improved High Flyin' offense. led by Kemp, Ethier, Rivera, Gordon, and a resurgent Loney. the Dodgers are also making spectacular plays in the field, turning Double plays, and even though the bullpen still is a bit sketch at times, they've been generally effective. this teamed with the Dodgers solid starting pitching, has them only three games under .500 at 67-70.
tonight won't be easy. if the Dodgers can somehow sneak in a win today, then with kershaw pitching tomorrow, could a sweep be in the Dodgers future? we shall see.
the Dodgers will give the ball to rookie Nathan Eovaldi. who will be making his final start before moving to the bullpen. the Dodgers looking to keep Eovaldi's innings down, is hoping he bounces back from a tough start last time.
Atlanta will Counter with lefty Mike Minor. Minor is 4-2 and hasn't started in ten days. he has improved his change up from what I read, and normally tends to tire out in the 6th inning, as most of his runs have come in those frames.
well have to deal with those annoying tomahawk chants for two more games. I remember all though out the 90's we had to listen to that and was very annoying. some Braves fans have these little bitty hand held tomahawks, they use, while most Braves fans use their arms as a tomahawk, extending their arms back and forth. sometimes when the cameras pan through the crowd, you can even see a few huge mammoth tomahawks, bigger than me. annoying. I bet those 8 Dodger runs last night sure shut them up.
the Dodgers are on a roll, but can they make a run? it could be too little too late for the Dodgers. have they run out of time? game time is at 410 on KCAL. each day brings a new hope. together we rise, together we stand. GO BLUE

when it don't look good in the neighborhood, who you gonna call.......CHOP STOPPERS!
have the Dodgers been toying with us for the first 4 months? its certainly seeming that way.
the Dodgers professional Chop Stoppers, Came from 5 runs down to beat Atlanta to win their 5th game in a row. The Dodgers scored 8 runs off 10 hits, taking the lead for good thanks to a Loney bases clearing three run double. they would need every run to overcome a shaky start by Chad Billingsley
Bills couldn't get out of the 5th inning, but the Dodgers new and improved Offense bailed him out. Kuo came in and pitched two scoreless innings to pick up a win, Matt Kemp threw out a runner at the plate, and Justin Sellers made an amazing double play. the rest of the guys pitched in when and where they could leading the Dodgers to a game 1 win by a score of 8-6.
after the Dodgers go down 123 in the top of the first off of Brandon Beachy, Bills started to have trouble right away. I was very disappointed with Bills tonight.
Bourne lines out to Bison. Miles can't handle Prado's little dribbler. he couldn't get the ball out of his glove.
Mccann walks, but Uggla pops out, and Chipper Jones flies out.
Ethier's walk is erased when Miles lines into a double play.
Bottom of the second, Freeman singles, Heyward whiffs. Freeman advances to second on a wild pitch. Gonzalez walks. Beachy sacrifices the runners to second and third with two outs. Bourne singles to center scoring Freeman. 1-0 Atlanta. Bourne then steals second. he leads the league in stolen bases. Prado's ground ball should have ended the inning, but Gordon bobbles the ball, for an error, Gonzalez scores its 2-0 Atlanta. Mccann's single scores Bourne. now its 3-0. finally Uggla flies out to end the inning.
move to the bottom of the third, Atlanta scores two more runs. the 100 year old Chipper Jones walks. Freeman doubles sending Jones to third. Heyward's groundout scores Jones. 4-0. Beachy singles past the drawn in infield putting the braves ahead 5-0. Gonzalez tries to score, but is thrown out at home on Matt Kemp's National League ;eating 11th assist. Big Rod makes a very good tag, and has to show the ball to the ump.
Bills whiffs Bourne to end the 3rd.
the Offense was gonna have to come up big, and boy did they ever. Gordon leads off the fourth with a single. he steals second for his 14th steal. Loney walks. Kemp is hit by a pitch to load the bases. (don't worry he was ok). Rivera singles up the middle scoring gordon and Loney and the Dodgers chip away a bit, its 5-2. Ethier flies out, and Miles hits into another double play to end the threat. patience Dodger fans.
Bills pitches a scoreless 4th thanks to a double play getting him out of a jam.
the Dodgers go down 123 in the 5th, and Bills runs into issues again in the bottom of the 5th.
he just made too many pitches. Chipper Jones singles, and Donnie pulls him. he brings in Kuo. boy Kuo was really on tonight. he had that Zip on his fastball. he looked like the Kuo of last year, that was all but unhitable.
Freeman flies out. Heyward grounds into a quick double play ending things in the 5th.
top of the 6th. Gordon another single. he steals another base. after Loney flies out, Kemp draws a walk. Rivera's single scores Gordon easily, Kemp goes to second. Kemp then steals third, and old man Chipper just falls over. so Rivera sneaks into second. thanks Chipper!
but Ethier fouls out, and Miles flies out. score 5-3.
bottom of the 6th. Gonzalez whiffs. wilson whiffs. Bourne singles, and steals second. then Kuo whiffs Prado. go kuo!
top of the 7th. this is where the Dodgers score five runs. heres how it happened. Vizcaino relieves Beachy after his pitch count had risen too high. Big Rod whiffs to start the inning. but Sellers singles. Gywnn hitting for Kuo, singles Sellers to second. Gordon singles through the whole at first moving everyone up 90 feet. bases loaded. the blazing hot Loney then delivers the knockout punch, a three run bases clearing double that goes down the first base line, just bouncing over the first base bag. everyone scores, and the Dodgers have come from behind to take the lead 6-5! but they wouldn't stop there. Loney goes to third on a wild pitch. Bison is intentionally walked. Rivera walked. Freddy Gonzalez makes a pitching change. they bring in the righty Christian Martinez to pitch to Dre. I'm not sure why they didn't bring in their lefty Venters, but whatever its their funeral. Martinez is also the same guy who gave up one of Kemp's walk-offs earlier in the season. so Andre Ethier a Professional hitter, just goes with the pitch, slapping one into center field for a hit. both Loney and Kemp score, and the Dodgers lead 8-5. Miles walks, but Big Rod's double play ends the inning.
we knew it would be easy holding onto this lead, and it got a bit sketch. Bottom 7th. Elbert in now, he gets Mccann to fly out. uggla singles. Jones walks. Freeman hits a line drive that looked like it was going into center field for a hit. it would have majorly sucked. but Justin Sellers makes a leaping catch and then acrobatically flips to Gordon at second, to get the double play, and the Dodgers get out of it!
move to the bottom of the 8th. Elbert still in. heyward flies out. Donnie brings a hook, and brings in Dougie. praying commences. Gonzalez singles. then pinch hitter Hinske singles. crap. first and second. Bourne grounds into a fielder's choice. the Dodgers are unable to turn two because Sellers slips on the bag. but Prado grounds out meekly and the 8th inning is over.
move to the bottom of the 9th. Javy (Ice Man) Guerra into close it. he whiffs Mccann, but that bastard Uggla homers, and its 8-6. Jones walks, and Im a bit worried now. but Freeman whiffs. Heyward grounds out ending the game. the Dodgers have won 5 in a row, and beat one of the best teams in the league on the road. they improve to 67-70.
alright Im going to go celebrate. tomorrows game is at 410 on KCAL. Nathan Eovaldi will make what should be his final start before being moved to the bullpen. he will draw Mike Minor. join us tomorrow as the Blazing hot Dodgers continue their march towards respectability. 14 more wins. each day brings a new hope. together we rise. together we stand. Chad Billingsley-10-10 vs. Brandon Beachy-7-2
The Dodgers face their biggest test tonight. game 1 of a three game set in Atlanta. the Dodgers have caught a break, as braves Ace Jair Jurgens has been scratched from his sunday start because of injury. the Braves will have a rookie named Delgado make the start instead.
The Braves have one of the best home records in the league-(46-26), and have a strong and capable lineup full of scary mashers. well have to watch out for Brian Mccann, Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla, and Chipper Jones. (yes hes still playing) the Braves have a commanding lead in the National League wild card race, and have won 81 games.
so the Dodgers will give the ball to Chad Billingsley, hoping to keep their four game winning streak alive. Bills is 10-10, and has had a jekyl and hide type season. in his last start Bills allowed three runs through 6 innings, earning him a quality start. Bills is 1-3 against Atlanta with a 3.35 ERA. no one in the Atlanta lineup has really hit him well, excpet for Martin Prado whos hitting .375 off Bills in 8 at bats, and Brian Mccann has hit a homerun off him.
the Braves will counter with right hander Brandon Beachy. the Dodgers have only faced Beachy once, and he has been on quite a roll latly. the young righty has a 2.55 ERA in his last 7 starts and has allowed only 2 runs or fewer in four straight starts.
the Dodgers announced today, that Juan Uribe will have season ending surgery on his hernia, and will not return this year. good riddance to that bum I say.
the Dodgers have scored 87 runs over their last 14 games, and during that span they are 11-3.
Justin Sellers will get his first start at second base tonight. as Dee Gordon returned to the Dodgers Lineup yesterday.
Im not looking forward to hearing a whole weekend of that annoyng tomohawk chant, but were going to have to hear it while the Dodgers are down there this weekend. this will be the Dodgers only trip ton Atlanta this season. Can Kemp, Ethier, and Loney lead the Cinderella Dodgers to victory in Hotlanta?

Bills is 1-3 against Atlanta with a 3.35 ERA. no one in the Atlanta lineup has really hit him well, excpet for Martin Prado whos hitting .375 off Bills in 8 at bats, and Brian Mccann has hit a homerun off him.

before the game we learned that former LA Marathon owner Bill Burke has offered McCourt a cash only 21 day offer of 1.2 billion to buy the Dodgers. well keep you posted on this breaking news.
we also learned that Casey Blake will have season ending neck surgery. with all this going on, the Blazing hot Dodgers led by Kemp, ethier, and a resurgent Loney continue their hail mary charge towards a winning season and maybe more?
fatigue also could have played a part for Pittsburgh today, as they had to stop their current road trip to come home for a single game, then fly to chicago for a series in wrigley.
the Dodgers would need all their runs to survive a late game futile charge from the Pirates. everyone contributed for the Dodgers, Miles knocked in two with a singe, Gordon drove in two with a double, and Kemp, Gordon, Loney, and Ellis each had two hits, as the Dodgers beat the bucs in a rainout makeup game that was put on the schedule back in may.
spot starter Dana Eveland who grew up in Palmdale and went to the same Jr. College as I did, was the hero, pitching 8 strong innings, allowing just a single run to score on a double play, walking none and whiffing 3.
The Dodgers get off to a great start, scoring three runs in the first inning before the chairs are warm. Gordon fresh off the DL, begins with a single to left. Gordon decides not to test the arm of Mccutchen and stays at first on Loneys fly ball. Bison singles Gordn to third. Bison steels second base, his 36th steal of the season. the Pirates intentionally walk Ethier to load the bases for Miles. the scrappy infielder's base hit to right scores Gordon and Bison. 2-0 Dodgers! Gwynns fly ball, scores Ethier from third, making it a three run first inning for the Dodgers. they are red hot!
Eveland has a good start. he starts out by whiffing Tabata. rookie Pressley singles, McCutchen hits into a force out, as Carroll is unable to get the ball out of his glove. Eveland picks off McCutchen at first base for the third out. still 3-0 Dodgers.
The Pirates score a run on two hits and a double play grounder in the bottom of the second.
Eveland had Ryan Doumit, (the pirates decent hitting catcher who's been killing the Dodgers for years) 0-2, but couldn't put him away, Doumit's sharp grounder bounces off Dee's glove and rolls into center field.
Walker singles Doumit to third. Harrison's double play grounder scores Doumit. 3-1 Dodgers. Wood lines out to Bison to end the inning.
The Dodgers go down in order 123 in the top of the third.
Eveland retires the bucs in order in the bottom half.
Lincloln allows a two out bloop single to Ellis, but that's it. still 3-1 Dodgers
eveland makes quick work of the bucs in the bottom of the fourth. and as we move through the top of the 5th, with two outs, Loney bangs one off the scoreboard wall in right, but he's left there as Lincoln whiffs Bison. still 3-1 Dodgers.
Ethier walks to begin the 6th. Miles flies out. Gywnn singles Ethier to third, and the Dodgers are in business. the Dodgers who ran the bases aggressively all day. live by the sword die by the sword right? Gwynn is thrown out trying to steal second. two outs now, Ellis walks, and Carroll is hit in the shoulder with a pitch loading the bases. pitcher Dana Eveland give the ball a ride to deep center, but McCutchen makes the catch at the warning track. darn it. still 3-1 Dodgers.
Eveland's strong effort continued through the bottom of the 6th. D'arnaud (I have no idea how to pronounce his name) gets a piddly infield hit to lead off. jaramillo grounds into a nice 6-4-3 double play, and Eveland gets Tabata to ground out to end the 6th. great job!
the Dodgers score a much needed insurance run in the top of the 7th. Grilli comes in to relieve Lincoln. Gordon grounds out, the Blazing hot Loney singles Kemp's infield single is thrown wide and Loney takes third. theres a passed ball that scores Loney, and sends Kemp all the way to third. it looked like Doumit got crossed up on that pitch. Ethier whiffs and Miles flies out to end the inning.
Eveland cruses through the 7th, pressley grounds out, Mr. WAR, McCutchen flys out. McCutchen isn't good enough to hold Kemp's jock strap. Doumit singles, but walker grounds back to the box. still 4-1 Dodgers through 7.
Resop is on the mound for the top of the 8th, and this is the inning where the Dodgers stick the nail in the Pirates coffin.
Gwynn whiffs, but ellis singles as the ball deflects off of resop's foot, taking a blue bounce into the hole between first and second. the inning would quickly unravel for Pittsburgh.
Carroll singles, eveland is allowed to hit and trys to bunt but ends up walking to load the bases, and then Dee Gordon;s line drive double down the right field line scores two, and the Dodgers go up 6-1.
Eveland stays out for the 8th. I actually liked this move from Mattingly. why take him out when he's pitching so well? plus it gives the bullpen a much needed rest. thats what spot starters are supposed to do right? eat innings.
Eveland makes one mistake in the 8th, a double to d'arnoud, but he whiffs Cedeno to end the 8th.
top of the 9th, and McCutchen is brought in to pitch. (Daniel not Andrew) he retires the Dodgers in order.
Eveland is pulled after making 99 pitches. he goes 8 innings allowing only 1 run off 6 hits, walking none and whiffing 3.
for some reason Mattingly wanted to give Hawksworth some work with the Dodgers up by 5 runs. I was surprisingly ok with this, as long as Hawk doest lay an egg. unfortunately since his hip injury never healed he's been laying plenty of eggs lately. he allows a leadoff seen eye single to Tabata. rookie Pressley takes him deep for a home run to right field. with none out, its 6-3 Dodgers. Mattingly makes the correct move though, he takes out Hawk, and brings in Jansen. good job Donnie.
with jansen in we got a bit of a scare. McCutchen walks, Doumit singles McCutchen to third. Walker's one sac fly scores McCutchen. meh a meaningless run for the bucs. Jansen whiffs Harrison and wood to end the game.
phew, the 9th inning was a bit sketch, but we got through it. the Dodgers have now won 9 of 10, and 10 of 13. tomorrow they will face there biggest test, a three game set in Atlanta.
join us tomorrow as Cha Billingsley will try to continue the Dodgers hot streak. tomorrows game is on at 435PM. stay with us as Kemp, Ethier, and Loney lead the Dodgers back to respectability. pinch me I'm dreamin'! can the Dodgers get back to .500? can they make a run? The Dodgers and their fans must pull together.
each day brings a new hope, together we rise, together we stand. GO BLUE!

*I just learned that Casey Blake (A.K.A. Rusty Anchor) will be having season ending, and possibly career ending surgery next week on his arthritic neck. Ill have more on this later, but were very sad to see Blake go. he was a good player but we knew his rustiness would be too much for him this season. good luck Blake, well miss you.*

last night we got the word that Dana Eveland will be making today's start for the Dodgers against the Pirates.
rain...rain.....go away....come around another day.....oh wait, hey its not rainy over here! far from it. southern california is in the midst of an awful heat wave, while the Dodgers are playing a makeup game in Pittsburgh. so as we begin the final month of the season several things to go over.
first the pitching matchup today will be a battle of two rookies. well not really. Eveland isn't really a rookie, as he's had service time in the major leagues with 5 different teams before the Dodgers. his MLB record is 16-22 with a 5.74 ERA. that sounds bad but most of his ML work had been in relief. his best year was with oakland in 2008 in which he made 29 starts and finished with a 9-9 record and a 4.34 ERA. Dana Eveland is being called up because the Dodgers are scared of blowing out Nathan Eovaldi's arm like they did with De La Rosa's. they will be moving Eovaldi to the bullpen, while Eveland will at least make one start as the Dodgers go with a 6 man rotation for this week only.
Eveland has had a good season with the Isotopes. he's been there most consistent pitcher, with a 12-8 record and a 4.38 ERA. and believe me in Albuquerque thats pretty good. he's pitched for Milwaukee, Arizona, Oakland, Toronto, and a cup of coffee last year in Pittsburgh.
Eveland is 27 years old, originally from olympia WA. he was drafted in the 2002 draft by the Brewers in the 16th round. he is a lefty, 6'1 and 235 LBS.
the Pirates will counter with rookie Brad Linocln. he's making just his second start of his career. he won his first start, and this should be a good test for the young right hander.
the red-hot Dodgers continue their charge towards first place. firing on all cylinders the Dodgers had their first winning month of the season with a 17-11 record in august. they've won 8 of their last 9, and 9 of their last 12, and are only 6 games behind the second place Giants with a 65-70 record
this will be a big test for the Dodgers, after the game is over they will fly to Atlanta for a weekend set, then to to washington for four, and end their 11 game 4 city trip with three games in San Francisco.
todays' game is a makeup of a rained out game back in may.
as you know Rosters expand today, the isotopes season doesn't end until monday, so well have to wait until then before more guys are put on the active roster, but in the meantime Eveland , Russ Mitchell, and Dee Gordon are with the team today.
Dee Gordon makes his return from a lengthy stay on the DL. he's back in the lineup batting leadoff.
as far as our injury updates are concerned. Stacie is still on the disabled list from child berthing, but she is close to being ready to start doing games again. I would expect her back soon but on a limited basis. maybe 1 or 2 games a week. I hope so because I could use a day off. LOL
lets talk about the final month, because I have the success for the Dodgers. listen up Donnie.....
1.meltdown prevention-Mattingly must continue to prevent meltdowns before they occur. he must remove his starters before they tire. keep a close eye on the bullpen, and no bringing in Mike Macdougal.
2. no more playing of Velez. with rosters expanded there should be no reason at all to ever put Velez in the lineup. the guy is an automatic out. he should be a bench warmer the rest of the way. the only acceptable use for him going forward is as a pinch runner and even then Mattingly has far superior options on the bench. no more playing Velez. Donnie do you hear me!? no excuses.
3. no Bunting. Donnie's done less bunting this month but still, its a failed strategy. we don't need to be playing for a single run, when we have guys slugging the ball out of the park. the only time we should be bunting is when the pitcher is up, no excuses.
4. Loney and Big Rod must continue to hit. both of these guys resurgence in august is a big reason for the Dodgers recent success. I read on the True Blue LA site that the Dodgers hit 27 home runs on august compared to 11 in july. they also hit .291 with runners in scoring position in august. that trend will need to continue if the Dodgers are going to make a hail mary run at first place.
no more excuses Donnie the time is now. this is it. 27 games remaining. no turning back here. the Dodgers are 12 games back of Arizona for first place. more than likely the Dodgers will not make the playoffs. they would have to go on an incredible run and they would need some help, in order to get back in it. what I'm hoping for is that 16 wins they need in order to avoid having a losing season. if they can do that then that would be a moral victory of sorts. a .500 record sounds like a wonderful dream. us Dodger fans have been haunted by the .500 mark for quite some time now.
here are the pitching match ups for the Atlanta series.-
friday-Bills vs. Beachy-435PM
saturday-Eovaldi vs. Minor
sunday-Kershaw vs. Jurgens
im worried about the Atlanta series. this road trip will be quite a test for the Dodgers. we hope that you will continue to join us for the ride. please feel free to comment or leave a message. all questions and opinions are welcome. todays game is at 105PM on KCAL. buckle up Dodger fans, its bound to be a wild ride!
