GAME 1
ok here we go. after last nights rain cancellation, the Dodgers are playing a double header today in Washington, and then leaving immediately after to fly to San Francisco for the weekend.
with a sweep in this doubleheader the Dodgers could pull within only 1 game of the seemingly unreachable magic .500 mark. for us Dodger fans this year, this is quite an accomplishment.
in the first game, Chad Billingsley will take the mound for the Dodgers looking to get himself back on track. inconsistency has plagued Bills this season, and last start was a prime example.
against Atlanta, he lasted only 5 innings, allowing five runs, three earned runs, and three walks. Bills only whiffed three batters, that night, normally he is a power pitcher.
we never know which Bills well get, during an up and down season. however Bills has always pitched well against the Nationals. he's 4-1 posting a 2.50 ERA. if the good Bills would just show up today, well stand a good chance of taking this game.
Washington will counter with Taiwanese righty Chien-Ming Wang. The big right hander once a 19 game winner with the Yankees, has been riddled with injuries ever since, as he has faded into ineffectiveness.
Wang this year is 2-3, but had problems in his last start, allowing four runs, and three walks through 5.1 innings. even more concerning for the Nationals, was Wang not recording one strikeout in that last start. most of the Dodgers have never faced him.
its been a while since the Dodgers have had a true double header like this. the boys in blue are bound to be extremely exhausted once they board plane for San Francisco. it would be awesomeness if we can get the sweep. two Dodger wins for the price of one sounds just fine for a thursday afternoon, Doesn't it Dodger fans? Game 2 will be televised on KCAL, and will begin 30 minutes after the first game ends.
Ill be pretty tired after doing two recaps. get ready for 6 hours of Dodger Baseball! what a great way to spend a thursday afternoon in doors during what will be 100+ degree temperatures throughout the day.
GO BLUEx2!!!
GO BLUEx2!!!
Game-2
in the second game the Dodgers will give the ball to Journeyman lefty Dana Eveland. the College of the Canyons graduate, surprised us all by pitching 8 innings of 1 run ball, in the rain makeup game in Pittsburgh. Eveland, who the Dodgers grabbed off the trash bin, has pitched consistently well in Albuquerque this season. posting a 12-8 record. Hell try and give the Dodgers some much needed innings, since the bullpen has been taxed of late.
Washington will counter with young lefty Ross Detwiler in the final game of this twin bill. the 24 year old youngster is making only his 8th start of the season. he was awful in his last start against the Mets allowing 6 earned runs, he is 2-5 this year against the league, with a 3.83 ERA. so this kid could be tough. we've seen Detwiler earlier this year, he's pitched 8.1 innings against the Dodgers with an ERA of just over 3.00
as you've noticed above, Jerry Sands is getting his first start since being recalled. lets give the rook another shot to prove himself. Ethier is given the day off, and Rivera moves over to right field.
*I just learned that Andre Ethier is not at National's Park, he is instead flying back home to LA to have his Knee looked at by a Doctor. it seems it has not improved and the Dodgers want him to have it looked at.
I don't know if this means that he's done for the season? or if hell just rejoin the Dodgers when they come home. I don't know. he is NOT on the DL as of yet. Im a bit torn by this decision. on one hand I want Ethier to be ready for next season, and having him get reevaluated would help advance that goal. we need Dre healthy for 2012. thats Probably more important that anything. however Not seeing him for the rest of they year would suck. also weakening the Dodgers lineup considerably. remember the Dodgers need 12 more wins to assure a non-losing season. When we have more information, we will pass that along to you*
*Update* I just learned it is official, Ethier has been shut down for the year, because of his Knee injury. Ill have more on this after the first game*
Game 1 is televised on Prime Ticket and will start at 10AM. looks like I'm pulling double duty today.
It is possible that rain could delay or postpone these games as well, I guess it is still raining in washington D.C., so well see.
Game 2 begins 30 minutes after the first game ends......no rest for the weary.......so............GO BLUEx2
