Mets 6 9 1
WP- Pelfrey (5-7)
LP- Lilly (5-9)
HR- Beltran (13), Bay 2 (6)
The Dodgers drop their fourth game in a row as the Mets shut them out after hitting three homeruns. We sink even lower to an abysmal 12 games under .500, with no hope in sight. Andre Ethier had a high fever, and was unable to play tonight so Aaron Miles batted 3rd and was a poor replacement for Dre. The Dodgers do what they do best, leave runners on base.
Both pitchers have 1-2-3 innings in the first.
Lilly only allows a ground-rule double to Murphy and a walk to Tejada in the 2nd. In the bottom half Kemp reaches on an error by Tejada and steals 2nd (#23). Then useless Uribe grounds out, and Oeltjen whiffs.
In the 3rd, Lilly allows singles to Pagan and Turner, but the Mets fail to score just yet. In the bottom of the 3rd Lilly amazingly doubles, Gwynn singles and reaches second on Pagan's throw which goes all the way to home. Hit Machine grounds out. Miles grounds out. Nada.
In the 4th, Lilly still looks okay and only allows a walk to Tejada. In the bottom half Kemp singles, Uribe gets a rare hacking double, but Kemp is thrown out at the plate. We can't blame Kemp for trying. It's very rare that Uribe gets a hit behind him. Oeltjen is hit by the pitch, and Ellis walks to load the bases. Lilly bounces out to end the inning.
In the 5th cue the meltdown. Pagan singles and steals 2nd, because Miles can't catch a ball. Turner grounds Pagan over to 3rd. Then Lilly serves up a 2-run homerun to Beltran, 2-0 Mets. In the bottom of the 5th Miles is hit in the elbow with a pitch and has to come out of the game later with a contusion. Kemp singles, Loney walks, but Uribe lines out.
In the 6th Bay homers making it 3-0. The Dodgers go down in order in the bottom of the 6th.
Lilly goes 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts on 85 pitches.
Pelfrey goes 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts on 102 pitches.
Kuo comes into pitch the 7th and sends down the Mets in order on 11 pitches. Beato comes in for NY and allows a triple to Carroll but strikes out Kemp.
In the 8th with Kuo still in, Beltran pops a single in front of Carroll, Kemp & Oeltjen. Apparently no one could get to it. Hawksworth comes in and promptly gives up a single to Paulino and then a 3-run homerun to Bay for his second helping of the night, 6-0 Mets. Then Hawk gets mad and strikes out Murphy and Duda but damage is done. Isringhausen comes in and allows a Loney single, Uribe hits into a force, Oeltjen walks, Ellis flies out and light hitting Velez grounds out.
Bay Hits 2 Homeruns Off the Dodgers Horrible Pitching |
Jon Garland is having season and maybe even career ending shoulder surgery after only getting 1 win this season with the Dodgers. His recovery is expected to be 6 months. That was one expensive win.
Tomorrow the Dodgers will try to save face in game three of four at 7:10pm. Go Blue:)
