Giants 5 10 1
WP- Vogelsong (7-1)
LP- Bills (8-8)
HR- Sandoval (9)
The Dodgers once again get shut-out, and Billingsley cannot get out of the 6th inning. He was overmatched by Vogelsong who now has the best ERA with 2.02. The Dodgers fall back to 13 1/2 games behind the Giants.
The Dodgers go down 1-2-3 in the first, and Bills allows a 2-out single to Sandoval and a double to Schierholtz but they don't score just yet.
Both pitchers have 1-2-3 innings in the second.
Hit Machine reaches on a Tejada error in the third, but the Dodgers cannot score. Tejada comes out of the game with a suspected groin pull. He's old. Bills sends the Giants down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
And You Thought Blake Was Rusty.... |
There's just one lucky Uribe single in the 5th. In the bottom half Torres flies to center and Matt Kemp makes a great catch spinning and hitting the wall to save an extra base hit.
The Dodgers waste another opportunity in the 6th when Miles and Ethier both single, but Kemp hits into a double play. Miles ends up at third, but Rivera pops out to end the inning. The bottom of the 6th gets very ugly when the Giants send up 9 batters and 4 of them score. Bills unravels when he allows a Fontenot single, Sandoval singles Fontenot to third, Schierholtz then singles home Fontenot, 2-0. Huff strikes out. Ross then promptly doubles in Sandoval and Schierholtz giving the Giants a 4-0 lead. Crawford then singles in Ross, 5-0. Donnie had finally seen enough and pulls Bills and puts in Guerrier. Guerrier allows a single to Vogelsong but then gets out of the inning without allowing anymore carnage.
Bills goes 5.1 innings, allowing 9 hits, 5 runs, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts on 95 pitches.
Bills Has Disastrous 6th |
Bills has not won in 9 starts in a row in San Francisco.
In the 7th, Uribe singles and Carroll hits a ground-rule double. The Giants bring in Affedlt to relieve Vogelsong. Hit Machine walks to load the bases, but Miles grounds out of course. Elbert comes in and pitches a nice 1-2-3 inning and strikes out the panda.
Vogelsong goes 6.2 innings, allowing 7 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts on 111 pitches.
Vogelsong is Pretty Good, Darnit |
No need for Blackbeard tonight. Ramirez finishes the Dodgers off in order in the 9th and ends by striking out the crappy Big Rod.
Tomorrow Rubby De La Rosa will pitch at 7:15pm in game 2.
Go Blue:)
