Home Sweet Home, First Meeting With AZ

Diamondbacks @ Dodgers
7:10pm
Game 1

The Dodgers return to Los Angeles after being rained out in Pittsburgh last night so they did not get to play the fourth game in the series. So they end up 3-3 on the roadtrip. It also means Jon Garland's RBI single will not count. They may be able to make up the lost game on July 14th, which is a scheduled off day after the All-Star break. The players seemed annoyed that the weather forecast called for 100% chance of rain that evening, and they still went ahead and had the game start at the regularly scheduled time instead of earlier. The rain did stop an hour after the game was officially canceled. Can't control Mother Nature!

Clayton Kershaw (4-3, 3.12)  flew ahead of the team, and will go for his 5th win of the season tonight against the snakes. Joe Saunders (0-4, 5.72), also a lefty, will go to the mound for AZ. He is still looking for his first win of the season.

In disturbing news today, it was announced that the Dodgers for some unknown reason have optioned Ivan De Jesus, purchased the contract of the utterly useless Juan Castro, and transferred Hecter Gimenez to the 60-day DL. Ughhh. We all know the Dodgers love their old retreads, but Castro just won't go away. Castro will be 39 years old next month, and he has only been in 8 games this season with the Isotopes before he landed on the DL. Hopefully Rafael Furcal will be ready to return soon, and Castro's cameo will be short.

Injury updates:

Furcal will play in a rehab game at AAA this Saturday. He is still a little sore when hitting right-handed. Casey Blake is performing baseball activities each day. Thames is still not even close to returning. Kuo's agent said that Kuo will pitch again, and he is just taking some time to overcome an anxiety problem stemming from a bout of the yips.

In other news, Juan Uribe was fined $1,000 after being tossed out of Monday's game after arguing with an ump about a bad call. Don Mattingly has yet to receive his fine amount.

Lineup:

Carroll 6
Miles 4
Ethier 9
Kemp 8
Uribe 5
Loney 3
Barajas 2
Sands 7
Kershaw 1

Ok, the lineup doesn't look too different tonight. Luckily Castro won't be starting, and will only be sitting on the bench alongside other uselessness like Russ Mitchell.

Andre Ethier has reached safely in 36 consecutive games, and will try to extend his streak tonight at home.

As Scott mentioned, we will both be at tomorrow's game and will be posting a special edition of DBF straight from beautiful Dodger Stadium!
Go Blue:)
